Obituary - Naomi Lee Hestand

Naomi Lee Hestand, 76, Peculiar, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Crown Care Health Center in Harrisonville, MO. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with graveside services to follow in Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, MO.

Naomi was born November 26, 1944 in Sheldon, MO, a daughter of Leo Calvin and Viola Mae (Rice) Zollman. She was a 1962 graduate of Belton High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Longview Community College. She married David Lee Hestand on October 20, 1962. Naomi was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raymore. She had worked as an HR director for Hawthorne Bank before retiring. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David on April 2, 2020, one brother, Ray Zollman and one sister, Leona Lowe. She is survived by two sons, David L. “Butch” Hestand, Jr. and Donnie C. Hestand (Dianna Mullins); one daughter, Jeanne Burgin (T. J.); one sister, Bonnie Henderson; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.


Obituary - Daniel William Olsen

Daniel William Olsen, age 69, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 21, from 1 to 3 pm at Centerview, 227 Municipal Circle, Raymore, Missouri. Floral deliveries are to be made prior to 5 pm on Friday.

Daniel was born on August 28, 1952 to Kenneth and Vivian Olsen of Eureka, Kansas. After graduating high school, Daniel went on to continue his education, ultimately receiving his Juris Doctorate from Washburn University of Topeka School of Law. In the late winter of 1985, Dan was joined in marriage with his wife Margaret “Peggy” (Eisenmayer) Olsen on February 9th. Their union was blessed with two sons, Alex and Ian.

Dan was a partner with the law firm of Van Hosser, Olsen & Eftink for twenty seven years. He served as the Raymore Municipal Judge for twenty five years; Lake Winnebago Municipal Judge for twenty three years; and Garden City Municipal Judge for one and a half years. Then Dan served as Cass County Associate Circuit Judge, Division V, for twelve years and eight months. He retired in December of 2018.

Dan was the charter president of the Raymore Peculiar Sunrise Optimist Club. He was supervisor of the American Royal College Livestock Judging Contest for fifteen years. He was a Missouri Conservation Department Hunter Education Instructor; a leader for NRA Youth Hunter Education Challenge; and a Cass County 4-H Shooting Sports leader for thirteen years. Dan loved fishing, hunting, the farm in the Flint Hills, and most of all his family and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Vivian Olsen; and brother in law, Dave Browning.

He leaves behind his loving wife of over thirty-six years, Peggy Olsen; two sons, Alex Olsen (wife Elizabeth) and Ian Olsen (wife Rachel); three sisters, Anna Browning, Jane Bengtson (husband Dennis), and Rita Anello (husband Ross); and two grandchildren, August and Elias.

Bates County Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for November, 2021

Gayle Warden is recognized as the Employee of the Month for November, 2021 at Bates County Memorial Hospital. Gayle began her employment at BCMH in June, 1992 as the administrative assistant in the hospital’s Nursing Department.

Gayle is gifted with organizing, coordinating, and prioritizing her duties. She helps every department throughout the hospital when she is asked and never tells anyone “No”. She helps outside organizations with whatever the hospital chooses to affiliate with. Gayle is meticulous with planning for all aspects of her job description and much more.

She is creative, punctual, and does an outstanding job with scheduling and education duties that are her responsibility. The hospital and especially nursing would suffer without this dedicated nursing administration assistant. Congratulations, Gayle!

Edna Virginia Groves, age 92 of Pleasant Valley, Missouri died Friday, November 12, 2021 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Pleasant Valley, Missouri. She was born June 2, 1929 to Henry E. and Mollie E. Graves Heckadon near Rich Hill, Missouri.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Beverly Barnes and husband Terry of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters-in-law, Linda Groves of North Kansas City, Missouri and Nancy Groves of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, Hubert Heckadon and wife Barbara of Foster, Missouri; one sister, Willene Engel and husband Buzz of Belton, Missouri; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John R. Groves; and one brother, George Heckadon.

Neal Allen Moles, 36, of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville. 

A Celebration of Life will be on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 4:00 pm at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with visitation beginning at 3:00 pm.
