Obituary - Neal Allen Moles

Neal Allen Moles, 36, of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville. A Celebration of Life will be on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 4:00 pm at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with visitation beginning at 3:00 pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the family.

Neal was born May 4, 1985 to Clint and Cynthia (Hampton) Moles in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Harrisonville High School in 2002. Throughout his life he worked at various restaurants as a line cook. Neal loved cooking. He was married to Ashley Driskill on April 20, 2003. He loved all children, especially his daughter, Morgan. Neal was a great friend to be had. He would give his last dime and the shirt off his back to anyone.

Neal loved the outdoors. He loved fishing and four-wheel riding at Truman Lake. He loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs and getting wound up during the game. He was an avid fan of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, board games, and country drives. He loved music. In school he was a member of Music Makers. He had a wonderful singing voice, he played the guitar, and he loved to sing karaoke. Neal was an ordained minister and he officiated ceremonies for several of his friends.

Neal is preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia (Hampton) Moles; grandfathers: Bob Carlill and Dennis Moles; aunt and uncle, Nancy and Ciamak Noorbakhsh; and uncle, Earl Moles. He is survived by his wife, Ashley (Driskill) Moles and daughter, Morgan Mcdaniel of the home; son, Kolton McLanahan; father, Clint Moles of Harrisonville; brother, Tyler Moles and wife, Michelle, of Springfield, MO; sister, Emily Moles of Pleasant Hill, MO; grandmothers: Jane (Wilkinson) Carlill and Verla (Chapman) Roberbs; grandfather, Franke Hampton and wife, Mary; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and well loved friends who were like family to him.

God bless his soul.


Warming Trend Early Next Week



Sunday will be a bit on the brisk side, with cool temperatures and a light breeze.

However, Monday and Tuesday will be pretty, pretty, pretty good with highs pushing 60-65 on Monday and 70 on Tuesday.

10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

CREMATION & INURNMENT will take place at a later date

Richard Gean Younce, 64, departed this life November 10, 2021 at Centerpoint Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Richard was born March 23, 1958, one of eight children born to Bruce and Beatrice Rose (Robinson) Younce.

Richard spent most of his life in the Kansas City area. He was a self-employed carpenter fondly known to his family as “Ricky the Roofer”. Richard had served one tour of duty in the U.S. Army.

Richard’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and his second favorite pass time was travelling. He therefore, spent much of his free time travelling to his many family member’s homes to visit with them as often as possible. He loved the time spent with them at BBQ’s and just partying. Fishing was another hobby that brought Richard pleasure, and also spending time with his lady friends.

Richard was know to his family as “their protector”. He was always there for any of them who needed help or for fixing whatever trouble they might have. He helped in every situation where family needed him. His love and dedication to family was always first, and he will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Preceding Richard in death were his parents; his son, Kevin Younce who passed away at age 10; five of his siblings: Janice Younce, Nancy Younce, John Younce, Buckeye Younce and Raymond Younce. Survivors include his daughter, Tiffany Inman, son, Tommy Williams; two siblings, Debra Younce and Stephen Younce (wife Sherry); many nieces and nephews.

Congratulations to these awesome Rich Hill band players on a job well done Saturday! They auditioned for the West Central District Bands and ALL made a spot! 

Emily Black was named alternate for the honorable mention band, Hayden Schapeler made 5th chair honorable mention band, Sydney Bell made 8th chair honorable mention band, and Noelle Abend made 8th chair Honor Band! 

Noelle will be auditioning for the state band in December! Congratulations to all four of these talented musicians!

Pleasant Hill Football wins District Championship

The Pleasant Hill Rooster Football team has won the District Championship! Congratulations to Coach Hamilton and his staff along with all of the guys!

They will play the St. Pius Warriors this Friday Nov. 19th; 7pm. Tickets will be available later this week online at the MSHSAA.org website; $7 (Cash will NOT be accepted at the gates as this is a state tournament event.)

Digital ticketing is required by the state association. Go Roosters!




Obituary - Donajean Bauer

Donajean Bauer, age 76, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 12, 2021, at her home. She was born June 30, 1945, in Moran, KS, the daughter of Leland and June Enos Mattson. Donajean attended Old Elsmore rural grade school and graduated from Elsmore high school. 

She also attended FSCC. She married Duane Bauer on September 1, 1963, in Elsmore, KS. She worked for the Western Insurance Company in Ft. Scott in her early years. Donajean then worked for Security State Bank and later UMB for a total of 42 years until retirement. She served selflessly and faithfully at Mt. Zion church where she was a member. At church she was a continuous supporter of Walk of Faith for Missions, taught Sunday school, served as VBS director and organized Gospel Tribe youth nights. Donajean was tireless in her efforts to show people Jesus and lead them in accepting Him as their Savior. Many local organizations also benefitted from her dedication including Care to Share, FCE, founding member and board member for the Keyhole, and 31-year perfect attendance at Pioneer Kiwanis, serving as President multiple times. 

Donajean loved God and her family. She delighted in her grandchildren and never missed attending a sporting event or performance. She enjoyed flower gardening, personalizing greeting cards, decorating at Homes for the Holidays, serving on Good Ol’ Days committees, and helping with the Bourbon County Fair. She generously shared her love and was loved by so many.

Survivors include her husband Duane of the home; a daughter, Danna Wilson and husband Jeff, Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren, Mattson Gromer and husband Dylan, and Peyton Steele; a sister, Diana Fewins, Moran, KS; brothers-in-law Don Bauer and wife Donna and Darrell Bauer and wife Jan; sister-in-law Mary Ann Magnuson and husband Max Patterson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Bauer; and her parents.

Pastor Rick Womack will conduct services at 11:00 Tuesday, November 16th, at the 1st Baptist Church, Ft. Scott. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Monday evening at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to either Care to Share or Mt. Zion Baptist Church Garland and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S. Main St., Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.



Mound City man killed in Linn County fatality crash

On November 12th around 6:15 p.m. the Kansas State Highway Patrol Linn County along with Linn County Kansas Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle fatality accident on K7 at milepost 97.7 Southbound or 612 Feet North of Leasure Road.

The Kansas State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Toyota Highlander driven by 57 year old Thomas E. McCarty of Mound City, Kansas drifted off the right side of road, he apparently lost control after over-correcting and the vehicle ran off the right side of the road again and overturned several times.

Mr. McCarty was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and he was transported to Schneider Funeral Home.

Obituary - Daimein Appleby

Daimein Appleby, age 17, of Creighton, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Research Medical in Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to the Missouri Heritage Conservation Foundation and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Daimein Kaleb-Seth Appleby was born on March 3rd, 2004 in Clinton, Missouri. Daimein enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He loved anything to do with nature. Daimein loved music especially Christian Rap and Country. He was involved with Celebrate Recovery through the First Baptist Church of Calhoun and the First Baptist Church of Clinton. He also attended fatherhood classes with his dad to help him grow into the young man Christ intended him to be at the Door of Hope in Clinton.

Daimein was preceded in death by his grandfather Kevin Johns, great grandmother Mae Burton, and his cousin Bryce Johns.

Survivors include his parents Cynthia and Terry James of the home, 3 brothers; Ethan James, Alexzander Pycke, Nathan Pycke all of the home, 3 sisters; Maralyn (Jameson) Bradbury of Windsor, Missouri, Ashley (Logan) Smith of Lebanon, Missouri, Shelbi James of Warsaw, Missouri, paternal grandparents; Beth Thomas of Lexington, Missouri, Janet Oakes and husband Glen Dickerson of Odessa, Missouri, maternal grandmother; Martha Johns and husband Jack Logan of Edwards, Missouri, 2 uncles; Kevin (Amy) Holdman of Windsor, Missouri, and Robert (Cheyenne) Johns of Lincoln, Missouri along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and great cousins and many friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home and are pending at this time.
