Adrian Optimist Club Students of the Month October

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”

For October the Miami Student of the Month is Destiny Roundy, a Senior. Destiny is the daughter of Reality Roundy. In school she is in Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, FCCLA, and FBLA. Outside of school Destiny is in Softball. Destiny appreciates a statement by Gabe Grunewald, ”It’s okay to struggle, it’s not okay to give up.” Destiny’s college plan is to major in criminal justice with a minor in child advocacy. Miami staff state “Destiny is an all around great kid. She has goals for herself and she works hard to obtain them. She shows school spirit, is kind to underclassmen, classmates, and teachers.

The Ballard Student of the Month is Lexie Ward, a Junior. Lexie is the daughter of the late Beverly Ward and Mike Ward. In school Lexie enjoys being a part of the Volleyball and Basketball teams. Lexie’s outside activities are participating in local 4-H and hanging with friends. Ballard staff say, “Lexie has really stepped up as the single editor of the publications class. She has a lot of responsibility, making

sure that she gets her articles done as well as putting the paper together each month. Lexie never complains about the workload she has to do. She usually has a smile on her face and is polite to everyone in the halls. She is a great role model for underclassmen as well as her fellow classmates. After graduation, Lexie plans to go to Cosmetology school. Her inspirational quote is, “If you want the rainbow, you must put up with the rain.”

The Adrian Student of the Month is Anna Glynn, a Sophomore. Anna is the daughter of Thad and Chancy Glynn. In school she is active in TSA, FFA, Acahawks, Band, Volleyball, Student Council, and Softball. Outside of school she is in her church Youth Group while teaching children’s Sunday School, and she does trumpet tutoring. Teacher Matt Davis states, “Anna is one of our best and most driven students. She is a pleasure to have in class and is a model for all other students to strive for.” Anna is not sure of her plan but would love to go to Evangel. Anna says, “My inspiration comes from my teachers and friends including Mr Romi, Mr Davis, Ms Bremer, and Mr Roth.”

Obituary - Harold Allen Ray

Harold Allen Ray (63) of Belton, Missouri passed away peacefully on November 12, 2021.

Harold was born at the Charleston Naval Base in Charleston, South Carolina on April 23, 1958. The oldest son of Oscar H. & Vader O. Ray. Harold spent the majority of his youth, moving from one Air Force base to the next, experiencing the full life of a son of an Airman. When Harold wasn’t spending his time engaged in sports, you could find him piloting the base’s flight simulator, where he accumulated more simulator time than the 2nd Lieutenants fresh from flight school. It was during this time that his family were first stationed at Richards Gebauer Air Force base and Harold attended Hillcrest and Westover (Gladden) elementary.

In 1972, Harold and his family returned to Belton and attended Belton High School, graduating as member of the Class of 1976. The most profound moment of Harold’s life occurred when he met the love of his life, Penny, during high school. Harold and Penny were united in marriage on December 1st, 1978.

Harold and Penny would soon welcome their first child, Brandon. A few years later, they would welcome their baby girl, Megan, into the world.

Harold was a graduate of Longview Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in Science. He was also a Graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Earth Science. Harold obtained his highest academic achievement, when he earned his Master’s Degree in Biology. UCM also afforded Harold with the opportunity to pursue his true professional passion of teaching, as a faculty member of the Earth Sciences division, as well as, being a paleontology team member on numerous field studies.

While Harold was proud of his professional and academic achievements, his biggest source of pride was his family. Harold’s love and adoration for his wife, children and especially grandchildren, was unwavering and always on display.

Harold was preceded in death by his father and mother. Harold is survived by his wife, Penny Ray; his son Brandon Ray (Jodie) of Hardin, MO; his daughter, Megan Agnor (William) of Greenwood, MO and grandchildren Cayden & Easton Agnor, Liam & Brielle Ray and step-grandchildren Noah, Chloe & Kalel Bowman. His brother Jeff (Jeanine) Ray, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
