Missouri Senator Roy Blunt visits Ellett Memorial Hospital

Missouri Senator Roy Blunt visited Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City November 10th to meet our Administration, Board, staff and St. Clair County Commissioners Robert Salmon and Leroy Strope.

Laura Smith, CEO discussed with Senator Blunt the present issues and prospects for our future.

The visit was very enlightening and gave further prudence to Senator Blunt on what is actually happening to health care in rural Missouri.

Obituary - Joyce Lynne Moore

Joyce Lynne Moore, 87, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Foxwood Springs in Raymore. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial to follow in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Bright Futures Harrisonville.

Joyce was born November 15, 1933 in Kansas City, MO, a daughter of Milton L. and Merle L. (Jeffries) Evers. She was a 1951 graduate of Harrisonville High School. Joyce married Charles L. Moore on December 5, 1954. Joyce worked as a secretary for Bob Hodge at the Harrisonville Schools. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was a volunteer at the Cass Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed playing bridge.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charlie Moore on February 14, 2019 and one sister, Betty Stewart. She is survived by her children, son, Steve Moore (Lisa), two daughters, Charla Moore, and Marcia Milner (Scott), all of Harrisonville, MO; 6 grandchildren, Ashley, Lynsey, Lauren, Charlie, Mattie, and Josie, and 7 great-grandchildren.


Obituary - Harold DeVerne Christiansen

Harold DeVerne Christiansen, 80, Archie, MO, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 at his home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO with Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to The Shriner Hospital for Children.

Harold was born February 8, 1941 in Archie, MO, a son of Alton DeVerne “Tom” and Thelma Elizabeth (George) Christiansen. He attended school at Archie and graduated in 1959. He also attended CMSU and Heavy Equipment trade school in California. Harold married Marcia Ann Jilek on June 30, 1961. To this union they had two sons.

Harold was a foreman for various construction companies in the Kansas City area until he returned to the farm in 1978. He spent the next 43 years farming on the family century farm. He enjoyed looking after his crops and cattle. Harold served on the Archie City Council and the PWSD#11 board. Harold was a retired member of local union 663. He served as worshipful master of Archie Masonic Lodge No. 633 and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Order. He was a current member of Crescent Hill Masonic Lodge in Adrian. He was president of the Grand River Drainage district; was a board member of MFA and ASCS. He was a member of Austin Baptist Church in Austin, MO, where he served as treasurer. He was baptized June 29, 1952 at the Archie Baptist Church.

Harold enjoyed bird dogs and hunting, fishing and camping with his family at Stockton Lake. He loved his family and especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Dorthy. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marcia, of the home; two sons, Ray Christiansen and his wife, Amber of Archie, and John Christiansen and his wife, Becky all of Archie; four grandchildren: Ryan (Tiffany), Dustin (Kori), Dakota (Kathryn), Katlyn (Austin); six great-grandsons; his sister, Mildred Elaine Gunnels (Stanley), along with many other relatives and friends.


Fugitive in custody after raid by narcotics team in Vernon County

A wanted fugitive is in custody after his apartment was raided by a narcotics team Tuesday night. According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, his office served a search warrant at a residence on N. Clay Street in Nevada, Mo, late Tuesday, and arrested Jamie Boykin, who was wanted on a US extradition parole violation warrant.

Sheriff Mosher said suspected methamphetamines were also located during the execution of the search warrant and that the investigation is on going by members of the Sheriff’s Office and the CNET Drug Task Force.

At press time, Boykin, 46, of Nevada was being held without bond in the Vernon County Jail.

Obituary - Linda "Kay" Loehr Kubala

Linda "Kay" Loehr Kubala 68 formerly of Butler, MO passed away November 14, 2021 at her home in Indianapolis, IN after a short battle with cancer. Kay's wishes were to be cremated with no memorial services.

Kay was born in Kansas City, MO to Glen and Thelma Belk Loehr on September 30, 1953 . On February 18, 1972 she was united in marriage to Robert "Mike" Dines. To this union a daughter was born. Later Kay married Mike O'Brien to this union 2 sons were born. Kay then married Mike Kubala and they made their life in Indianapolis, IN. Kay loved spending time with her neighborhood family, fishing, and taking care of her cactuses.

Kay leaves behind her husband Mike Kubala of the home. One daughter Michelle DeMott(Ryan), 2 sons Sam O'brien and Gary O'brien(Taryn), 14 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, along with a host of other family and friends.

Kay was proceeded in death by her parents Glen and Thelma Loehr, Sisters- Sherry, Carol, Thelma, and Velma, Brother Kenny, and 1 grandson Brandon.


Butler Junior High Wrestling Team News 11/18

The Butler Junior High Wrestling Team traveled to Lone Jack for a meet tonight. I am very impressed with our team tonight.

Results:

Bryce Bedwell: 2-1.
Daryl Jarreau: 2-0.
Preston Mallatt: 2-0.
Cohen Wilson: 2-0.

We keep getting better and better each time we step on the mat.

Ina May VanSandt, 91, of Adrian, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler, MO. 

Funeral services will be held 10:00am Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO. 

The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm Monday, November 22, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian. 

Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. A complete obituary will be updated when it becomes available.
