Shooting in Rich Hill

Bates County Sheriff's Deputies have been called to the scene of a shooting inside the City of Rich Hill. Additional staff have been called in to assist to include Detectives and all Command Staff.

This appears to be a targeted incident. One person received a gunshot wound and has been airlifted to a trauma hospital.

Two white male subjects entered the home and an altercation ensured. One produced a gun and shot the homeowner.

The Sheriffs Office does not believe this to be a random act and does not feel there is any substantial danger to the community.

We are looking for information on two white male subjects. The shooter was wearing a blue hoodie. No other descriptions has been given at this time.

Early in his life Steve committed to working in the food service industry, most recently as the General Manager of Applebee’s in Belton, Missouri, where his combined passion for food and people was able to flourish. Steve never met a stranger, and he dedicated himself to creating both long-term relationships and daily smiles. Most important to Steve was his family and friends, with whom he always jumped at the opportunity to spend time with. His love for life was infectious, and he touched everyone blessed with the opportunity to meet him. Although Steve’s presence was often too big for words, he was able to condense his message to all into simple but powerful words, “Hug Big, Love Bigger.”
