Updated Obituary - Darrell Donavan Stevener

Darrell Donavan Stevener was born to Raymond and Myra (Gibson) Stevener on June 23, 1954 in Nevada, MO. Darrell departed this life on the morning of December 2, 2021.

Darrell was married to Debbie (West) in 1992. Together they have four children: Talana, Josh, Mark, and Traci.

Darrell attended the Rich Hill schools and graduated in 1972. While in high school he was the captain of the football team and a record-earning member of the track team. Darrell entered the family farm out of high school and would eventually take it over with his brother, Phil. Being from a long line of farmers, it was in his blood.

Darrell had a passion and talent for the craft. He and Phil worked to grow the family enterprise for nearly 50 years so it’s legacy can continue for generations more.

Darrell was known for his genuinely kind, easy-going, and often goofy demeanor. He was always willing and ready to help others. Darrell was generally the “quiet” life of the party, pulling pranks and telling jokes. If you stayed around long enough, you might even get a new nickname (but not necessarily one you could use in public).

He had a love for Disney, cars, traveling, and a good restaurant. When you lost him on a family trip you could usually find him at the nearest eating establishment getting a snack. As much as he liked to travel, he always wanted to be home in Rich Hill for the Fourth of July celebration.

At home or afar, what mattered most was that he was spending time with his family creating memories which will be forever cherished. Darrell was a friend to many and would do anything for those he loved.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, aunts, and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, of the home; children Talana Sullins, Josh (Tracy) Sullins, Mark (Morgan) Stevener, and Traci Stevener; grandchildren Maddy, Morgan, Megan, Emma, Brynn, and Elle; brother Phil Stevener; brothers-in-law Roger West and Rick West; sister-in-law Tammi (Robert) Irwin; cousins Dixie Black, Mike (Cindy Wheatley) Black, Chuck (Marti) Gibson, Lester (Sara) Gibson, and Paul (Pam) Stevener, Jr.; life-long friend Jerry (Tammy) Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 7th at the Rich Hill First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Monday, December 6th at the Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill, Missouri. Burial will be in the Green Lawn Cemetery.

The week ahead weather wise

It'll be a cold and blustery Monday across the area with highs only in the mid to upper 30s and wind chill values in the teens and 20s.

While most folks will stay dry on Tuesday, there may be a few flurries, especially north and east of the Kansas City Metro.

Temperatures will then warm through the end of the week with unseasonably warm temperatures expected Thursday and Friday.
