Henry County Health Center confirms 28 new positive cases of COVID-19

The Henry County Health Center (HCHC) has received confirmation there are 28 new positive cases of COVID-19.

This brings the total number of confirmed positive cases in Henry County to 3,322.

All contact tracing has commenced and all parties that have had close contact are being notified. HCHC continues to encourage residents to practice social distancing, washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more, and to remain home if you are sick.

The CDC continues to recommend that individuals to wear a face covering when you are in public, and are unable to social distance, to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19.


Obituary - Clyde Allen Bley

Clyde Allen Bley, 85, formerly of Moundville, MO passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Wildwood Senior Living in Joplin, MO. Clyde was born June 26, 1936 in Deerfield, MO to Charles C. and Viva (Clyburn) Bley. He married Thelma LaDene Klontz on January 25, 1956 in Ft. Scott, KS and she survives of the home.

Clyde, a lifelong resident of Moundville, graduated from Nevada High School in 1954. He worked for Joseph L. Pohl Construction for 40 years until his retirement and was a longtime member of Operating Engineers Local #101. Throughout his life, Clyde also farmed and raised cattle. He enjoyed fishing, quail hunting, and coon hunting.

In addition to his wife LaDene, he is survived by three children: Brenda Young (Clifford) Bentonville, AR, Allen Bley (Janet), Moundville, MO, and Doug Bley (Teri), Moundville, MO; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Gulliford, Nevada, and Charlene Widmar, Franklin, KS; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin Bley, and Lee Bley; sister, Glenna Gordon; and an infant sister, Chelsea.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Memory Gardens in Ft. Scott, KS with Pastor Adam Gordon officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Obituary - Gayla Clark

Gayla Clark, 57 of Drexel, Missouri passed away December 8, 2021 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. Cremation, with private family services to be held at a later date. Gayla Jean Benson Clark was born July 4, 1964 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Henry and Lillian Raison Benson. She worked as a bus driver for many years before becoming a CNA. Gayla loved riding horses, painting, drawing, and reading. She also very much enjoyed her time with family.

Gayla was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her son Thomas Clark and wife Erica, brothers, Troy Benson, Todd Benson, Ty Benson, and T. Gary Benson, along with her sister Geana Jones and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Obituary - Randie Emlynn Smith

Randie Emlynn Smith was born December 1, 2021 at Overland Park Regional Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas. She passed away shortly after birth. 

Private family graveside services were held at West Point Cemetery, Amsterdam, Missouri.

Randie Emlynn is the daughter of Rebecca McAnany and Matthew Smith. 

She is survived by her parents, one brother; Emmett, and one sister; Regan. Although Randie Emlynn’s life was short, she left an imprint on so many.

Nevada Police Department’s Shop with a Cop Program tremendous success!

The Nevada Police Department’s Shop with a Cop Program was held this past Saturday December 11th at the Nevada Walmart Supercenter. 

We would like to thank everyone involved including the individuals and organizations whose contributions and support were vital to making this year’s event a tremendous success!

Linn County Kansas Sheriffs Office reports a church burglary in Parker

Church Burglary
Parker, Kansas

On December 13, 2021, at 5:56am the Linn County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a burglary at the First Baptist Church in Parker, Kansas.

The caller stated that children’s Christmas presents had been stolen from within the Church. Upon arrival of the Deputy a search for evidence ensued, the Deputy located camera footage in the area. Based on camera footage from the location it appears that at approximately 3:10am a vehicle entered the area of the Church. The camera footage is poor, see attached photos. More camera footage from the Parker area is being viewed to determine if anything else may be located.

Rodney Clinton – Treasurer of the First Baptist Church stated: “This is a real shame, if the people need help, they should have just asked, the Church is always willing to assist families in need. These gifts were to be delivered about the Parker area to children”.
