Henry County Health Center confirms 57 new positive cases of COVID-19


The Henry County Health Center (HCHC) has received confirmation there are 57 new positive cases of COVID-19.

This brings the total number of positive cases for the month of January 2022 to-date 435.

All contact tracing has commenced and all parties that have had close contact are being notified. 

HCHC continues to encourage residents to practice social distancing, washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more, and to remain home if you are sick.

The CDC continues to recommend that individuals to wear a face covering when you are in public, and are unable to social distance, to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Warm Socks for Kids Who Need Them

Bates County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteers met last week to sort the new socks donated for the Operation Sock-It-To-Me project late last year.

The socks will be given to children in need through area schools. Socks were donated by employees of BCMH, as well as patients and visitors.

Operation Sock-It-To-Me is an annual project of the BCMH Auxiliary.


Two vehicle accident on D Highway east of Passaic

On January 13th around 8:53 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Bates County EMS responded to a two vehicle accident on D Highway just before CR NE 3453 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2018 Ford F-150 driven by 24 year old Robert H. Villa of Butler, Missouri backed into the path of the westbound 2004 Peterbilt driven by 46 year old Ronnie C. Dines of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Villa sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene of this accident.

Obituary - David Lynn Knifong

David Lynn Knifong, age 70, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri with his wife and daughter by his side. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, January 17, 2022 with visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service.

David was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Harriett (Bigler) Knifong and Francis Knifong on November 27, 1951. He was raised on a dairy farm between Calhoun and Clinton, Missouri and graduated from Calhoun High School in 1969.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 till 1972 as a Combat Engineer at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. His passions were classic cars, traveling and selling siding and windows for over 20 years. David did not know a stranger and always had a smile and something to say.

David married the love of his life, Janet on April 14, 1998 at Sandals Royal Jamaican. He loved his family and serving God most of all. He never missed a sporting event or one of his grandchildren's activities, and they always knew Papa would be there when they needed him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Danny, his sister Judy and his grandson Samuel Scoles.

He is survived by his wife Janet of the home, four children; Jennifer Scoles (Tielor) of Clinton, Missouri, Jeff Knifong of Columbia, Missouri, Mekayla Martin (Bryce) and Mack Kelley of Fulton, Missouri, seven grandchildren; Owen, Wyatt, Julia Grace and Dillon Scoles, Ethan Watson, Harper Kelley and Wade Martin, four brothers; Jimmy (Mary) Knifong of Oak Grove, Missouri, Kevin (Beth) Knifong of Seymour, Missouri, Paul Knifong of Warrensburg, Missouri, Dennis Knifong of Calhoun, Missouri and a plethora of nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Randy Eugene Braun

Randy Eugene Braun, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at his home in Clinton, Missouri. A Celebration of Life for family and friends of Randy will be held at The Beacon, 123 S Washington, on Thursday, January 13 from 5-7 pm. Please stop by and share with us three of Randy’s favorite things: a dessert, a story and a good laugh. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, with a visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. Randy Eugene Braun, age 64, of Clinton, Missouri passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in his home. Randy was born in Clinton, the son of Charles and Wilma (Bath) Braun, raised in Clinton and spent his life working and loving his family and friends in Clinton.

He graduated from CHS in 1975, and even before then was working not only on the family farm, but in several places around town. From working at Safeway to owning rental properties, much of his life was spent growing Mid America Packaged Ice Company, and while he spent many hours of his life working, he always had time for his family and friends. He came to faith in Jesus Christ as a young adult and made it a priority to raise his children to know the Lord. His love for good food and a good laugh were his free time favorites. He was a kindhearted and good man, who enjoyed wearing his overalls and a good lunch buffet, who would do anything for anyone.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Les Cauthon, and nephew Ronnie Cauthon.

Randy is survived by his two children, his daughter Sandra Poff, of Clinton, and her children, Logan, Scarrlett, Jessica and Caiden, as well as many other foster grandchildren over the years. His son Scott Braun, and his wife Priscilla, of Omaha, NE, and their children Silas, Madalyn and Seth Braun. His companion and friend of the home, Deb Jagger, and her son, Tyler Jones, and his wife Anne, of Fort Wayne, IN and their children Theo and Thorin. His four siblings, Linda Cauthon, Peggy and Francis McCartney, Vickie and Mike Greufe, and Susan Braun. Nieces and Nephews include Ricky Cauthon, Jim McCartney, Troy McCartney, Chris Greufe, Nathan Greufe and Stephanie Overton. And many other family and friends.

Services have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.

William “Wild Bill” Fredrick Snedden, 83, Sheldon, MO passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
