It's going to be a warm & windy day across the area. Wind gusts of around 50 mph are expected throughout the day. Strong to severe storms are possible this evening between 5 pm and midnight. 

The main hazard will be from damaging winds of 60+ mph. Hail will also be possible. A tornado can't be ruled out but is unlikely.

Update: Harrisonville man injured in Bates County rollover accident

On April 22nd around 5:20 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Butler Fire Department, Adrian Fire Department and Bates County EMS all responded to a two vehicle rollover accident on D Highway just west of CR 7003 east of Passaic. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2018 Jeep Wrangler driven by 75 year old Robert G. White of Harrisonville, Missouri crossed the center line of the roadway and stuck a towed unit of the eastbound 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Christopher J. Rotert of Montrose, Missouri before striking a ditch and overturning.

Mr. White sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Obituary - Alice L. Collins

Alice L. Collins, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, April 20,2022 at her home in Clinton, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 25, 2022 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial to follow in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to the Missions Fund at Allen Street Baptist Church in Clinton and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Alice LaVonne Webster was born May 22, 1939 to Orvil and Zelma Webster. She married Arthur Collins on June 22, 1962 and they had four children, Cindy, Joanna, Melinda and Steven.

Alice was a life-long resident of Clinton and a faithful member of Allen Street Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for many years. Once her children were teens, she decided to enter the work force and worked for a Steakhouse restaurant for several years and then worked for Westwood Nursing Home for 25 years before retiring.

Alice loved God and her family. She enjoyed growing flowers, spending time with her husband in the backyard, watching westerns with her son, making crafts and baking. She was a hugger and never met a stranger. She was kind to everyone she met, and so proud of her family.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur; three daughters, Cindy Collins of Clinton, MO, Joanna Collins of Clinton, MO and Melinda (Eric) Tiffany of Shawnee, KS, one son, Steven Collins of Clinton, MO, a granddaughter, Carmen Tiffany of Shawnee, KS, and a brother, Danny Webster of Clinton, MO.

Proceeded in death by her parents, Orvil and Zelma Webster, 5 brothers: Joe, Jerry, David, James, and Eldon, and 4 sisters: Beulah, Dorothy, Linda, and Shirley.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

One arrested on 5 warrants in Butler

On April 22nd around 5:39 p.m. the Butler Police Department arrested 28 year old Jeffery Michael Hicks of Amoret, Missouri.

Mr. Hicks was arrested for several failure to appear in court warrants out of Bates County and Jackson County. 

The charges are listed below:
1.) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia ($250 cash/surety)
2.) Expire Plates ($125 Cash only)
3.)Failure to drive on the right half of the roadway ($125 Cash only)
4.) Possession of Marijuana ($250 cash/surety)
5.) Operation a motor vehicle without maintaining financial responsibility ($250 cash/surety)

Jeffery Michael Hicks was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently listed as bondable.

Obituary - William "Cape" Edward Kendrick

William "Cape" Edward Kendrick, 84, Wellsville, KS, formerly of Archie, MO, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Wellsville Retirement Community in Wellsville, KS. 

Memorial services will be held Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Cremation with inurnment at a later date at Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to Lewy Body Dementia Association at LBDA.org for research and care.

Cape was born October 1, 1937 in Adrian, MO, a son of Wilburn Edward and Ollie Celestine (Oliver) Kendrick. He was a lifelong Cass County resident and attended Archie Schools. Cape was united in marriage to the love of his life and queen, Donna Sue Horn on September 5, 1958 in Jefferson City, MO. Cape was a Maintenance Superintendent for Kansas City Power & Light at the La Cygne, KS power plant before retiring in 1998.

Cape was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna Sue, on October 23, 2021; and his son, Brent Kendrick, on March 14, 2022. He is survived by two sons: Bill Kendrick (Janetta), Drexel, MO; and Barry Kendrick (Paula), Camdenton, MO; one sister, Christine Holbrook, Omaha, NE; six grandkids: Scott and Ginna Kendrick, Tommy and Jill McCoy, Ben and Stephanie Hansen, Chuck and Kelly Anderson, Kurtis and Kayla Weaver, Andy and Brianna Bissell; and the great-grands: Madie, Aiden, Trevor, Lily, Chase, Sydney, Riley, Cora, Quinn, and Charlie.

The family of William (Cape) Kendrick would like to convey their deepest appreciation for all the acts of love and kindness given to them during this difficult time. Your expressions of sympathy will always be treasured.

Coty Lee Nichols, 31, of Freeman, MO passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022 in Lawrence, KS. Visitation will be on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.

Coty was born July 19, 1990 in Kansas City, MO, to Diane (Bidwell) Nichols and James Nichols.

Coty was preceded in death by Grandpa Jim and Baby Samuel. He is survived by his mother, Diane Nichols, Freeman, MO; his father, James Nichols, Drexel, MO and second mother, Melody, Drexel, MO; twin brother, Casey; brothers: David, Andrew, Justin, and Michael; sister, Nan; Grandma Judy; Grandma Charlene; Grandpa Billy and his partner, Steph Zirkle; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.
