Lamar teen killed, Two others injured in Barton County crash

On October 2nd around 1:45 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Barton County along with Barton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on V Highway around 10 miles northwest of Lamar, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the eastbound 2008 Chevrolet Impala driven by 18 year old Benjamin L. Harrington of Lamar, Missouri ran off the left side of the roadway, struck and bluff and overturned.

Mr. Harrington was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident and his body was transported Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar.

Two juvenile passengers in this vehicle both were injured and both were transported to the hospital for treatment. This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 101st fatality of the year 2022.

Obituary - Joe David Fleming

Joe David Fleming, age 74, Linn Valley, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022.

Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday, October 6, 2022 at the Calvary Baptist Church, La Cygne, Kansas. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel.

Drexel Lady Cats Volleyball News



The Drexel Lady Cats competed in the Archie Tournament today. The Lady Cats went undefeated in pool play, 6-0.

They moved to bracket play and defeated Holden 2-0. They battled Archie in the Championship game but lost to the Whirlwinds, 2-0, placing second. Way to battle, Lady Cats!

Next up will be a home match with conference foe, the Jasper Lady Eagles on Tuesday at home. JV starts at 5:30 followed by the varsity. Game will be live streamed on nfhsnetwork.com.


Vehicle hits bank in Butler

The Butler Police Department is on scene of a vehicle that wrecked into Adrian Bank on West Ft. Scott Street in Butler at this time. 

No one is reportedly injured in this accident.




Obituary - Patricia Clifton

Patricia Clifton, 69, of Adrian, Missouri, passed away on October 1, 2022, in Overland Park, KS.

Obituary - Dixie Dell Huffman

A graveside service for Dixie will be held Monday, October 3, 2022 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City, Missouri.

The family requests any memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals and may be left at the cemetery the day of the service or at Hill & Son Funeral Home.

Dixie Dell Huffman, 92, departed this life September 28, 2022 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri. Dixie was born September 1, 1930 in Schell City, Missouri, the daughter of Roy Leo and Daisey Emmaline (Robinson) Davis. Dixie grew up in Schell City graduating from Schell City High School. She was proud to be the captain of basketball team during those years. She was a member of the Christian Church.

On January 21, 1961 Dixie was married to William Jacob “Jay” Huffman. They moved to Independence, Missouri until Jay’s retirement in 1990 when they moved to a farm near Rockville, Missouri. Dixie had a job outside the home briefly but chose to focus on raising and caring for her family.

Cooking and baking were two things she enjoyed doing for her family. They all agreed that her cinnamon rolls were the absolute best. Throughout her life she owned many varieties of dogs, but her favorite furry friend was Tiny, a peek-a-poo, who was her companion for 16 years. Dixie also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at her feeders. Her hobbies were putting together jig saw puzzles and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed watching “judge” shows, bull riding, boxing and cage fighting on TV.

Dixie was preceded in death by her son Michael Davis who was killed in Vietnam in March 16, 1970, two great-grandsons and nine siblings. Survivors include her husband Jay; her two daughters, Carolyn Dye and husband Paul, and Debbie Nelson; her grandchildren, Michelle Wilhite, Wendy Shelton, Rodney Dye, and Amy Rowe; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two siblings, Larry Davis and Betty Souza.

A special thanks to Heartland Hospice members for their compassion and the special care extended to Dixie and her family.




Three injured in St. Clair County rollover accident

On September 30th around 7:25 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Clair County along with St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on NW 175 Road about two miles west of Osceola.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the northbound 2002 Dodge 1500 pickup driven by 61 year old Bruce R. Lindquist of Collins, Missouri was traveling northbound when he it traveled off the roadway and eventually overturned.

Mr. Lindquist along with two passengers, 36 year old Jake Lindquist of Collins and 27 year old Kala Miller of Cozad, Nebraska were all listed with serious injuries and were taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
