Butler man arrested on warrant

On November 2nd around 12:02 a.m. the Butler Police Department arrested 46 year old Christopher L. Forbes of Butler.

Mr. Forbes was arrested for 1.) Butler Police Department Warrant - Domestic Assault.

Christopher L. Forbes was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently being held on a bond of $300 cash only bond.

Carthage woman arrested after crash in Bates County

On November 2nd around 3:57 am the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 43 year old Erin N. Williams of Carthage, Missouri after a accident on I-49 near Adrian.

Erin N. Williams was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Careless and Imprudent driving resulting in a crash.

She was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and later released.

Obituary - Betty Sue Goth

Betty Sue Goth, 86 of Montrose, Missouri passed away at her home on Monday, October 31, 2022. The family will receive friends starting at 6:00 PM on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri with the Rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 4, 2022 also at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri. 

Cremation to follow with an inurnment in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Immaculate Conception Church and can be left in care of the funeral home. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Sue was born in Montrose, Missouri on February 7, 1936, the daughter of Clarence A Cornell and Pauline M. Vansant Cornell. She graduated from Montrose R-14 High School in May of 1953. She started work at Hallmark card in Kansas City until her marriage.

Sue was united in marriage to Richard Donald Goth on September 6, 1954, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri. After Dick and Sue were married the welcomed seven children, Theresa, Donald, David, Darrell, Danny, Maggie and Sandra. Sue later started working at Clover Leaf Sewing Company in Appleton City, Missouri, then she became the Bookkeeper for West Central Community Action Agency in Appleton City until she retired at the age of 70 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers-in-law and one grandson.

Survivors include her seven children, Theresa (Bill) Munsterman, Donald Goth (Karen Hinkle), David Goth, Darrell (Mary Anne) Goth, Danny Goth, Maggie (Phil) Stoddard and Sandra (Shawn) Brownsberger, 15 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Bettie Scifers

Bettie Scifers, 97 of Butler, Missouri passed away Monday, October 31, 2022 at Greenwood Terrace in Lenexa, Kansas. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). 

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am Thursday, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler.

Shooting and manhunt lead to arrest in Linn County Kansas

Re: US 69 Shooting / Man Hunt / Arrest
Date: November 02, 2022

On November 01, 2022, at 11:35pm a call was received at the Linn County Sheriff’s 911 Center. The caller stated that they were southbound on US 69 near Pleasanton, Kansas, and a subject in a vehicle near them began shooting at their vehicle. The shots fired struck the vehicle the caller was in, disabling the vehicle which was occupied by several persons.
 
The suspected shooter was in a vehicle occupied by two persons. The suspected shooter exited the vehicle and ran into Pleasanton on foot. Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies and Pleasanton PD were dispatched to the scene. Law Enforcement began to search for the suspect as occupants of both vehicles were interviewed. Due to the nature of the call multiple Sheriff’s Deputies were called out to assist in the search.
 
On November 02, 2022, at 1:24am the suspected shooter was located near Dollar General in Pleasanton and taken into custody without incident. The suspected shooters gun was recovered. The suspect was transported to the Linn County Jail where he is awaiting formal charges. The driver of the vehicle the suspected shooter was in was arrested as well and is awaiting formal charges.

All suspects are presumed innocent until adjudicated in a court of law.

Obituary - Gerald Duane "Skip" Crews

Gerald Duane "Skip" Crews, age 62, of Lamar, Missouri passed away October 29, 2022, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

Skip was born July 17, 1960, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Ronald James Crews and Pat Rochelle (Lancaster) Crews. 

On September 19, 2009, Skip married the love of his life Nancy LuAnn Turner in Lamar, MO. Skip received an honorable discharge in 1990 having served in the United States Army and in the National Guard during Operation Just Cause.

Skip was a machinist for 30 years, working the last 12 years at TEI. He also worked armed security and hauled trailers for FEMA. Skip was a member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Irwin, Missouri. Of Skip’s many hobbies he was a competitive shooter (going by the name of Sisco Sim) with SASS, avid fisher and hunter, a blackbelt in Tang Soo Do, and enjoyed camping with his wife.

Survivors include his wife Nancy; four sons, JD (Jess) Crews, Michael Kirbey, Eric (Kari) Daniels and Jeremy Daniels (Daniel Griffith); one daughter, Amber (Jason) Zupan; 22 grandchildren, Grady, Griffin, Joani (Stan), Kayla (Jesse), Keaton, Hunter, Kimber (Zac), Nicholes, Rylee, Eli, Adi, Tanner, Brodee, Ayden, Madison, Ethan, Monika, Gunner, Kannon; nine great-grandchildren; his father, Ron Crews; two brothers, Troy Crews and Jay Crews.

Skip was preceded in death by his birth mom, Pat; his mother, Ruth Crews; two sons, Wesley Crews and Charles Crews; two brothers, Tracey Crews and Ronald Crews Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow in Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon, Missouri.

The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 p.m., until service time at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
