Another busy day for the Nevada Fire Department

Yesterday 1-28-23 your Nevada Firefighters responded to another pair of structure fires.
 
At 1505 hours B-Shift was dispatched for a house with a fire on the outside of the structure. Chief Denney and E219 responded with 3 personnel and found the fire out on arrival. Fire was started due to ash from smoking material but was put out by the owner.
 
At 2001 hours B-Shift was alerted to to a structure fire next to Casey’s on Austin. E219 with a crew of 3 responded and found a commercial garage with fire showing.

Chief Denney was on scene from noticing the fire while driving. Crews brought the fire under control in roughly 10 minutes. Quint 216 and truck 210 responded with 4 total off duty personnel.

Thank you to Compton Junction and Milo Fire for Mutual aid. The fire was a result of flying sparks from a grinder igniting flammable liquids.





MDC assigns Drew Davis as conservation agent in Henry County

Clinton, Mo. – Drew Davis is the newly assigned conservation agent for Henry County by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). Davis will patrol a county blessed with many outdoor recreation opportunities from uplands to Truman Lake. He joins other conservation agents and field staff that serve natural resources and outdoor recreation in the Kansas City region.

Davis recently graduated from 28 weeks of training in the MDC Conservation Agent Training Academy. He is trained for law enforcement, protecting Missouri’s fish and wildlife resources, and providing conservation outreach and education for the public.

A native of Carrollton, Mo., Davis grew up on a farm. His favorite activities have always been hunting, camping, fishing, and spending time in the woods. He became interested in becoming an agent after working with a conservation agent while he was in high school. Davis received a bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Park Management from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

Davis and his family have moved to Henry County. He is on the job there and says he’s enjoyed the county thus far and looks forward to serving the community for many years to come.

Very cold conditions through Monday

We'll if you are going to be spending any time out in the elements today dress appropriately as the coldest air since the holiday season will affect us today through Monday. Wind chill values this morning will be in the single digits above zero to single digits below zero.

Highs today will only reach the mid-teens to lower 20s and wind chill values will only max out in the single digits this afternoon. 

By Monday morning, wind chills will range between zero and -15 degrees. Temperatures will not rebound much tomorrow with highs again in the mid-teens to lower 20s.

Shooting Investigation in Miami County Kansas

On 1/28/2023 at 2:32 P.M. emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of 239th Street and Lookout Road for a subject in the wooded area with a gun shot wound. The victim was hunting on State Park property when the victim was shot.

Due to the unknown circumstances, multiple Sheriff's Office personnel, including the Special Operations Response Team, K9 Team and Shawnee Police Department K9 team responded to search the State Park area. It was not known where the shot came from but confident, due to the location where the victim was shot, it was on the State Park property.

Personnel were able to make contact with hunters in the area during the investigation. At no time was it believed there was a danger to the public.

Through the investigation it is believed this is a hunting accident and is being investigated by the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks with the assistance of the Sheriff's Office Investigations Division. The victim was transported by air ambulance to a local area hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

We thank the assistance of the Fire District #1 Of Johnson County, KS, Miami County EMS, KDWP and the Shawnee Kansas Police Department during todays event.

Lady Cats finish 3rd in Archie Tournament

We would like to congratulate the to the Drexel Lady Cats for placing third in the Archie Tournament with a 52-45 win over Archie. Up next for the Lady Cats will be at Archie on Tuesday Jan. 31st starting at 5:30.


Patrick breaks school record for most wins on the mat

We would like to congratulate Butler Senior Wrestler Brendin Patrick on breaking the Butler High School Wrestling win record. 

Brendin currently has 162 wins and counting as he finished first today in the tournament in Higginsville. 

Brendin will be looking to become the first Butler wrestler to win back to back state championships. He is the son of Mike and CJ Patrick!
