Fatality accident in Barton County

On Thursday April 13th around 11:17 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Barton County along with Barton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on US Route 160 in Lamar.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a southbound 2014 Audi A6 driven by 85 year old Anne A. Nunnelee of Tulsa, Oklahoma failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed the highway, struck an embankment, and overturned.

Anne Nunnelee was airlifted to Freeman West in Joplin and she was pronounced dead at today at 5:46 pm.

This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 23rd fatality of the year 2023.

Structure fire in rural St. Clair County

04/14/23 @ 1447 Hours. The EL Dorado Springs Fire Department responded for a mutual aid request from Roscoe Fire along with Collins Fire concerning a reported structure fire. 

8 Trucks and 20 Firefighters responded. Thanks to CMH ambulance and St. Clair sheriff office for standby.

Butler Bears Varsity Baseball team Defeats Buffalo in a Blow-Out Victory

Butler Bears Varsity easily dispatched Buffalo 8-2 on Friday. The Bears fired back up the offense in the second inning. Brock Lines drew a walk, scoring one run.

Maddox Fennewald led things Off on the mind for the bears. Fennewald went seven innings, allowing two hits on five runs and striking out nine.

Blake was on the mound for Buffalo. The hurler allowed six hits and six runs over five innings, striking out four. Dayton threw two innings in relief.

The Bears racked up nine hits. Fennewald, Brandon Hammett, Jake Chandler  and Peyton Jackson all managed multiple hits for the Bears. Jackson, Fennewald, Hammett, and Chandler each collected two hits to lead the Bears.

Buffalo racked up five hits on the day. Easton and Cole all had multiple hits for Buffalo.








Obituary - Randie Michelle Hawkins

Randie Michelle Hawkins, age 39, of Lamar, Missouri passed away March 30, 2023 at her home.

Randie was born October 28, 1983 in Springfield, Missouri to Darrell Lonnie McDonald and Tina Louise Johnston.

Survivors include her father, Darrell McDonald; one son, Teanin Hazen; three daughters, Dustie Hawkins, Saphera Hawkins and Atreya Hawkins; three brothers, Justin Anderson, Quintin (Kelsey) McDonald and Coltin McDonald.

Randie was preceded in death by her mother, Tina Johnston and husband, Jason Hawkins.

No services are planned at this time.

Wellness walk held today on the Butler square

Today members of the Bates County Sheriffs Office took part in a wellness walk in honor of April being child abuse prevention month, the walk was intended to bring awareness to child abuse prevention in our community. 

Members from the Butler Missouri Police Department , Butler Children’s Center, 27th district juvenile office, 27th district children's division and members of our community came out dressed in blue to walk around the Butler square at noon. 

“Coming together as a team and as a community to combat and prevent child abuse and protect our community’s children is one of the many important roles any of us can play. 

I am proud of the hard work each of these offices do daily to be a part of that” said Sheriff Chad Anderson.






Clinton High School names new head football coach

Clinton High School is proud to announce it has selected Todd Mowery as its next Head Football Coach.

Coach Mowery is currently the head wrestling coach at Clinton High School, and served as the head football coach at Clinton Middle School this past fall. Prior to joining the Clinton School District, Coach Mowery was a defensive coordinator with the El Dorado Springs and Osceola High School varsity football teams. He was also an assistant wrestling coach in El Dorado Springs.

During his high school years, Todd was a three-sport athlete, participating in football, baseball, and wrestling, and was an all-state defensive back. Todd’s senior year was capped off by being selected to play the safety position in the Ohio All-Star Football Game.

Todd attended college at Columbus State Community College in Ohio, the University of Cincinnati, and Southern New Hampshire University earning a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management.

Todd and his wife, Jamie, have been married for 13 years. They have two children, Braxton and Kinley, who are both sports enthusiasts. Braxton will be in 6th grade next year and will continue to wrestle and play football in the Clinton youth organizations. Kinley, who will be in 4th grade, enjoys basketball, wrestling, and baseball.

“We are thrilled to announce Todd Mowery as Clinton High School’s next head football coach,” says Jenny Corson, Clinton High School Principal. “Coach Mowery is eager to take on this new challenge and lead our football program to success on and off the field. For years, Coach Mowery has been invested in the Clinton community through youth football and this year as a teacher and coach in the district. We are confident that Coach Mowery has the talent, drive, work ethic, and longevity to achieve great things.”

Coach Mowery is looking forward to becoming a part of the CHS football program. "Another chapter is beginning and I couldn't be any happier to be a part of this organization. I look forward to the success that awaits us.”

Obituary - Joseph "Mitch" Mitchel Durbin

Joseph "Mitch" Mitchel Durbin, 55, of Harrisonville, MO, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023 at his home. A Celebration of Life visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.

Mitch was born April 14, 1967 in Harrisonville, MO to Walter Joseph and Norma Jean (Yoder) Durbin. He was a life-long Harrisonville resident, and a 1985 graduate of Harrisonville High School. 

He worked in the Parts and Service department at Lee’s Summit Dodge. Mitch enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with family and friends and sharing BBQ that he smoked on his Traeger.

Mitch was preceded in death by his parents, and his infant sister, Charlotte Durbin. He is survived by two brothers: David Durbin, of Warsaw, MO; and Chad Durbin and his wife, Natalie, of Fayetteville, AR; nieces and nephews: Sarah Stebbins and Ian Durbin, both of Warsaw, MO; and Bailey Durbin and Austin Durbin of Springfield, MO.
