Stolen tractor and baler found in Linn county, Kansas

Early this week it was discovered that a John Deere tractor and hay baler owned by Nieder Farms of Amsterdam were missing from a location near Amoret and the search was on. While it was thought that someone may have simply 'went for a joy ride', it appears those responsible may be part of an widely organized effort.

According to information provided by Linn County Sheriff Kevin Friend, deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on June 28th in the 17000 block of 1825 Terr. in LaCygne and not able to locate the subject; but the homeowner allowed them to search the property, a 10 acre parcel. In a wooded area they discovered the tractor and baler stolen from Bates county, which was seized and returned to the Nieder's.

Also found on the property was an aluminum trailer missing the VIN number and it had been partially disassembled. Further investigation indicated the trailer had been stolen from Franklin county, Kansas.

Yet another trailer was located that was missing identification numbers, which turned out to be stolen from Lee's Summit, Mo.

Sheriff Friend advises everyone to be diligent, lock up and try to keep equipment out of sight whenever possible. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
