Hot and Humid Conditions

Hot and humid conditions are expected this week with chances for severe storms thrown in for good measure. Afternoon heat index values Tuesday will climb to around 100 degrees. 

Tonight into early Wednesday morning, a complex of thunderstorms will likely affect northern Missouri. Damaging winds and hail are the most likely hazards with that round of storms.

How this area of storms evolves will greatly affect the weather for Wednesday. The most likely scenario is that storms affect northern Missouri and keep areas along and south of the Missouri River dangerously hot and humid.

Afternoon heat index values likely climb as hot as 110. Then additional storms develop during the afternoon and evening hours. Those storms would have the potential for large hail and damaging winds, as well as locally heavy rainfall.

Obituary - Richard Ellis Justason

Richard Ellis Justason, of Edwards, Missouri passed away Friday evening, July 7, 2023 at his home. He was born in Independence, Missouri on September 18, 1967, to the parents of George Wayne Justason and Carolyn Faye Justason.

Richard is proceeded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents, George and Carolyn Justason, along with his sister Carla Jefferies.

He left behind his surviving wife, Shelley Justason and daughter Hayley Justason in the home. Surviving children and their spouses are as follows: Angela Justason, Adam Justason, Arik Justason, David Justason, and stepdaughter Destiny Lace along with many grandchildren, and stepdaughters, Megan and Nikki Turner and two nieces Samantha and Shannon Jefferies.

Rich loved the outdoors, hot rods and motorcycles. He will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Drake Harbor in Warsaw, Missouri to include a memorial ride with a pot luck dinner to follow at the American Legion Post #217 in Warsaw. Memorial contributions can be made to his daughter, Hayley Justason, to assist with ongoing medical expenses c/o Reser Funeral Home, P.O. Box 910, Warsaw, Missouri 65355.

Missouri Tax Free Holiday

The 3-day sales tax holiday begins Friday, August 4th at 12:01 am, running through Sunday, August 6th at midnight. 

So, if you're heading out for back-to-school shopping… this is the time to do it. 

Every year, the Missouri sales tax holiday is held from the first Friday of the month through that Sunday night.

Obituary - Milton Hertzberg

L. Milton Hertzberg, 93, of Nevada passed away on July 10, 2023 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. 

Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Those who wish may contribute in Milton’s Memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Alzheimer’s Association c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Road Closure in Harrisonville

TRAFFIC: The City of Harrisonville Street Department staff have closed Jefferson Parkway in both directions, as they replace a storm water culvert under the road.

Detour signs will be posted.
