Obituary - Ronald Lee Allee

Ronald Lee Allee, 70, of Creighton, MO, died Saturday, July 8, 2023 at his farm near Creighton. He was born on June 4, 1953, in Sedalia, MO, the son of Vernon Lee Allee and Marjorie Lorene (Finley) Allee.

Ron attended Otterville Public School and graduated from Otterville High School in 1971. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture business in 1975 at UCM in Warrensburg, MO.

On December 4, 1976, in Creighton, MO he married Julie Ann Meyer. They met in college when Ron was a senior and Julie was a freshman.

They made their first home in Tarkio, MO, where Ron was employed by Evans Grain Co. He was later transferred to Imperial, NE and Horton, KS where he continued working for Evans Grain Co. He next worked at the grain elevator company in Drexel, MO for two years. After moving to Creighton, Ron worked as a dispatcher for B&H Freight Line in Harrisonville, MO, followed by selling real estate for Consolidated Realtors in Harrisonville.

When he became a USPS city carrier in Clinton, MO, he was able to combine two of his passions, being outdoors and socializing. He retired in 2016 after nearly 25 years.

Ron made many friends as a mail carrier, as a member of the Clinton Elks Lodge, and as a golfer at Meadow Lake Country Club. He also enjoyed his “breakfast club” at Reynolds Cafe in Garden City, MO. In his spare time, he loved to deer hunt and check his trail cameras for wildlife pictures. He spent a lot of time in the woods cutting firewood. He was known for selling 10-15 cords per year which helped put all three kids through college loan-free. He was currently in the process of having a lake built in the woods, which was one of his dreams.

The grandkids loved taking Ranger rides on the trails that Papa Ron cleared in the woods behind the house and putting corn out for the deer with him. He enjoyed watching the grandkids play sports and seeing them in school events. His priceless advice: “Drive like you got some sense” and “Watch out for deer while driving back home” and last but not least, “Stop fiddlefarting around.”

Ron is survived by his wife Julie of the home, two daughters, Sara Tignor of Olathe, KS and Hillary (Jacob) VanSlyke of Pleasant Hill, MO and one son, Drew (Jisun) Allee of Korea, four grandchildren, Lilly (12) and Violet (7) Tignor and Carter (10) and Allee (7) VanSlyke; one sister Sandy (Ron) Otten of Sedalia, MO and a brother Tim (Lisa) Allee of Sedalia, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Ron was proceeded in death by his parents, a nephew Mitchell Allee and a niece Jessica Allee.

A celebration of life will be held at the Elks Lodge in Clinton, MO on Saturday, July 15 beginning at 4 p.m. A taco bar will be available from 5-7 p.m.

Complaint addressed by State Auditor regarding horse related expenses

A letter addressed to Bates County Presiding Commissioner Jim Wheatley from Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick dated June 21, 2023 outlines a complaint alleging “taxpayer funds are being used for the costs of purchasing, maintaining, and care of horses that are being used for personal use.”

The letter, prompted by a complaint received via the Whistleblower Hotline, goes on to say that the unnamed complainant is also concerned that the county is reimbursing the Bates County Sheriff for the purchases rather than directly paying for county expenditures.

While the letter was addressed to Wheatley, Sheriff Chad Anderson confirmed he had also received a copy and will provide all information requested from his office.

Action requested by the Auditor includes providing canceled checks for any and all expenditures related to the purchase, maintenance, and care of the horses; providing an explanation of how the horses are used for county business and are a reasonable and necessary expense for the county; copies of all canceled checks written to Sheriff Chad Anderson for reimbursements between March 1, 2022 and August 31, 2022; and copies of all invoices and receipts to support the canceled checks as mentioned previously.

In a conversation with Anderson, he stated “We welcome the auditors oversight and will be completely transparent. They will receive our full cooperation.”

It is unknown exactly how long it will be before the results of the audit will be available; Mid America Live will be reporting accordingly.
