Norris wins Tim Nixon Cross Country Invitational

We would like to congratulate Harrisonville High School Junior Kayleigh Norris for winning the Tim Nixon Cross Country Invitational with a time of 18:16 yesterday! She finished with the fastest time among 177 runners. 

The time also breaks her school record of 18:33 and is the second fastest time in the state currently among all classes/runners. 

Kayleigh's time is also tied for 9th fastest in school history boys OR girls. Way to go Kayleigh!

Obituary - Ryan Scott Dugger

Ryan Scott Dugger, age 33, of Belton, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 28, 2023 at home.

A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held at Weirdos Tattoo Shop. 521 N. Scott Ave Belton MO 64012 on Sunday September 10th 12:00-2:00pm.

Ryan was born in Harrisonville, Missouri, on November 4, 1989 to Randy Dugger and Stephanie Bauer. Ryan graduated high school from Ray-Pec High School in 2008. After school Ryan had flourished in his career as a tattoo artist. His life’s mission was to make people laugh and to create lasting artwork that meant something to all of his clients. His passion for art started a young age. He was always drawing as a child and won several awards growing up. His legacy will live on through the thousands of tattoos that he created over his career.

Ryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, H. A. and Mary Dugger and Teresa and Charles Cozine, and maternal grandparents, Patricia and Don Bauer.

Ryan is survived by his parents, Randy Dugger and Stephanie Bauer; longtime girlfriend Stacy Ethridge; and three brothers, Cody Dugger (Nikki), Josh Dugger (Maddi), and Clayton Dugger. Ryan is also survived by countless family members, friends, and fellow artists.

Obituary - Callista Rachelle Cotton

Callista Rachelle Cotton, age 23, of Cleveland, Missouri passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023.

A celebration of Calli’s life will be held with a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

Calli was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on May 12, 2000 to Russell Leon Cotton Jr. and Paula Renee (Stowell). The family resided in Maryville, Missouri through her early childhood, moving to Cleveland, Missouri in 2004. Calli attended elementary school in the Midway school district, transferring to Belton schools in 6th grade. She graduated high school in 2018, having been active in band, choir, and theater activities. She then briefly attended Northwest Missouri State University, playing in the Bearcat Marching Band in the fall of 2018. Since then, Calli worked as a preschool teacher, most recently at Little Blessings in Raymore. She loved the children she cared for, and planned to return to school one day to pursue a degree in education. Calli was a fan of fancy coffee, scented candles, “dad” jokes, young adult fiction, and many genres of music.

Calli was preceded in death by her father, maternal grandparents, and a cousin.

She leaves behind her mother; sister, Ryanna Cotton; paternal grandparents; and several uncles, aunts, cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Stand Up To Cancer.

Grandview man killed in Cass County motorcycle crash

On Friday September 1st around 10:57 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Cass County Sheriff's Office and Belton Police Department responded to a fatality motorcycle crash at Missouri 58 Highway at I-49 in Belton.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a westbound 2004 Ford F-150 driven by a 17 year old male from Raymore, Missouri was making a left hand turn when he was stuck in the side of the truck by a eastbound 2003 Yamaha WZFR6 driven by 28 year old Zane Warner of Grandview, Missouri.

Zane Warner was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident and he was transported to Frontier Forensics. This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 57th fatality of the year 2023.

Obituary - Carl Duane Gookin

Carl Duane Gookin, age 80 of Amsterdam, Missouri died Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Butler Center in Butler, Missouri. He was born February 20, 1943 to Carl Asa and Celia Ann Ramirez Gookin in San Diego, California.

Carl grew up in Chula Vista and San Diego, California. He graduated from Hoover High School in San Diego. Carl was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served on a submarine. Other places he worked was Scripps Oceanography in San Diego, as a police officer and a truck driver for a construction company both in California. Carl was a member of the VFW. He lived in California before moving to Amsterdam, Missouri 17 years ago. In 1988 he married Patricia Lang.

Carl was known as smart, intelligent and a fire-cracker. He loved to talk, teach people, visit with his friends in the bar and spend time with his family.

Carl is survived by his wife, Patricia Gookin of the home; a son, Carl Robert “Bobby” Gookin of California; a daughter, Tammy Gookin of Washington; two stepsons, Mike Sixkiller and Dennis Sixkiller both of Amsterdam, Missouri; and two step-grandchildren, Vivian Sixkiller and Jesse James Sixkiller. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Billy Gookin.

State Farm Student Athlete of the week: Tandee Hiser 

We are excited to announce our first Athlete of the Week. As part of being a Good Neighbor, Athlete of the Week allows us to give recognition to the hard working athletes in the area. 

We look for good sportsmanship, teamwork, citizenship, as well as their character both on and off the field or court. Each week they will be awarded with a certificate and a gift card to Sonic. Each Athlete of the Week will be considered for one $500 scholarship which will be awarded in May.

Congratulations to Tandee Hiser for being selected as this weeks Athlete of the Week! Tandee was nominated by Coach Goldammer who stated, "Tandee is a freshman, straight A student at Butler. She is a humble, yet dominating force on our Varsity volleyball team. In our win over Midway, she served 100% from the line, had 1 recorded block but numberous touches, 8 digs, and 18 kills. She is a hard worker on and off the court, and she's just a genuinely good person."

About Tandee:

Tandee is a freshman at Butler High School. She is involved in volleyball, basketball, and track. We asked Tandee what she believes it takes to become an elite athlete. She told us, "a lot of time and dedication. You must work very hard to get to that point." The most influential person in Tandees athletic career is her father, Jason Hiser. She explains he has taught her a lot of what she knows and helps her understand the game.

•Favorite sports memory: Breaking the school record in pole vault her 8th grade year.

Obituary - Casey Wilson

Casey Wilson, 30, of Clinton, Missouri, died Monday, August 28, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

He was born August 21, 1993, in Clinton, the son of Robert Lee Wilson and Danna Lynn Harrelson. He had worked for Kottwitz Farms. Casey loved being outside. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding the 4-wheeler with his sons, or looking for arrowheads.

Survivors include 2 sons, Spencer and Skyler Wilson; his mother, Danna Leckbee (Terry), Clinton, MO.; his father, Robert Wilson, Bowie, TX.; grandmother, Helen Sell, Calhoun, MO.; a daughter, Jerrika Eaton, Osceola, MO.; 5 brothers and sisters, Justin Wilson of TX, Callie Tepfenhart (Cory) of MO, Felisha Butts of MO, Zachary Butts (Kayla) of TX, and Alex Wilson of TX; and a host of relatives and friends including nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, great-aunts, and great-uncles. 

He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Dwight Sell; paternal grandmother, Callie Wilson; his special significant other, Andrea Eaton; and his friend and mother of his sons, Stacie Marek.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2023, at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton, with Pastor Larry Hill officiating. 

The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to help with funeral expenses in care of the funeral home.

Rollover accident in rural Rich Hill...

Rollover accident in rural Rich Hill...

Around 6p.m. tonight the Rich Hill Fire Department (RHFD) was dispatched to a one vehicle rollover accident on county road 105 just north of B highway in rural Rich Hill. 

This was a non injury accident. However one  individual was trapped in the vehicle upon the fire departments arrival. 

RHFD advised dispatch to get Butler Fire's Rescue Unit en-route. RHFD was able to get the vehicle stabilized and the individual out of the vehicle before BFD's rescue arrived on scene.
