We will never forget!

We will never forget!

Let's take a minute to remember Rich Hill Police Sergeant Jim Wilkinson. Sergeant Wilkinson passed away of a heart attack while working a call 26 years ago today.

A Memo from Trent Diehl, City of Butler Director of Public Works

This memorandum is intended to explain the probable cause of the "taste and odor" complaints we are receiving. The most likely primary source of the problem is algae, specifically Synedra.

When the algae synedra is oxidized, it gives off an odor that is comparable to a dirty\earthy smell. Low lake levels and excessive heat accentuate the problem.

To alleviate the problem, we are raising the lake level by running the river pump, increasing treatments to the lake with copper sulfate, cleaning the clarifiers at the plant. and exploring alternate methods of treatment for the alage.

I contacted a water specialist from Missouri Rural Water Association (MRWA). He was a former employee at MoDNR. I wanted to get his assessment of the situation.

He was here on Friday to perform a microscopic evaluation of the water coming into the plant. This was to verify the cause of the problem. After the evaluation is complete,

I will update you with any additional information if needed.

Several agencies conduct search warrant in Pettis County

On 09/05/2023 at approximately 1530 hrs., a search warrant at 16803 Buchanan Rd, Pettis County, was served by the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force, and the Bates County Sheriff’s Office.

This warrant is the culmination of, regarding this specific incident, over two years of investigation including multiple law enforcement agencies such as Henry County, Sedalia Police Department, Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force targeting Tony D. Meyer, 51. of Pettis County as an alleged, extraordinarily large, illicit drug distributor.

This first warrant served in Pettis County was conducted via my mutual aid request with the Bates County SERT, who successfully and safely concluded this investigation.

Upon arrival, Tony Meyer was taken into custody after a brief attempt at flight, and his brother Ricky Meyer, 56 yoa of Pettis County, was taken into custody without incident. A search of the persons and property revealed the following:

Just under 2 lbs. of methamphetamine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance
Suspected Heroin, a Schedule I Controlled Substance
Oxycodone, a Schedule II Controlled Substance
Over $10,000.00 US currency
2 Morphine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance
16 Hydrocodone, a Schedule II Controlled Substance
3.44 grams fentanyl, a Schedule II Controlled Substance
Glock 42 .380 Auto
Smith and Wesson 9mm

We also seized a Dodge Challenger, Cadillac sedan, and Honda CBR to be forfeited.

Shortly after this service, a second warrant obtained during this investigation was served, again by Bates County SERT, Pettis County Deputies, and Mid-Mo Drug Task Force, at 19532 Maltsbarger Rd.

A search of this property resulted in the following:
20 Hydrocodone, a Schedule II Controlled Substance
44 Alprazolam, a Schedule IV Controlled Substance
1 g Methamphetamine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance
Springfield .45 ACP
Taurus 9mm
Mossberg 500 12 gauge
Several altered Missouri license plates
Drug paraphernalia
A stolen flat bed trailer
A suspected stolen Kubota tractor
A stolen Kawaski Ninja motorcycle

There was a third search warrant relating to this investigation served in Henry County with a small amount of methamphetamine seized.
Initial charges of Trafficking, Receiving Stolen Property, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm will be submitted to the Pettis County Prosecutor's Office for an initial bond, reference Tony. Charges against Ricky will be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office as well for Trafficking.

The cases will then be submitted to the US Western District Court via the DEA for federal indictment, at which time the state charges will be dropped and defendants transferred to the custody of the US Marshals upon said expected indictment.

This is a tremendous advancement in the effort to make the county safe for all of our citizens. I cannot thank Bates County and Sheriff Chad Anderson enough for their patience and professionalism in the service of the warrants here in Pettis County.

It is truly appreciated. A big shout out to Henry County Sheriff Kent Oberkrom as well. Our Task Force, deputies, fellow deputies, sheriffs, and police officers are committed to making a positive impact within not only our own jurisdictions but that of others. It is an honor to serve with them.

UPDATE:
Tony Meyer’s state charges: Trafficking x 2, Possession of a Controlled Substance x5, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm x 2, Resisting Arrest - $1,000,000.00 bond
Ricky Meyer’s state charge: Trafficking - $50,000.00 bond.
Federal indictment expected

Obituary - Reba Faye Piper

Reba Faye (Phillips) Piper passed from this world on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the age of 79. Reba was born July 22, 1944, in Oakland, CA to Joseph Sherman and Alma Lottie (Hart) Phillips.

Reba graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1962 and joined the Air Force along with a couple of her friends because it seemed interesting. After “boot camp” she was stationed at Selfridge Air Force Base in Mount Clemons, MI where she worked as a secretary. It was there that she met and married Gary Piper on February 9, 1963. Since women were not allowed to be pregnant in the military, she chose family and had three sons.

Reba later graduated nursing school and spent most of her career caring for the elderly, in nursing homes and her own home. Her life centered around her family. She loved spending time with all of them, especially her sisters. Reba was a foster parent, she loved children, being a kid at heart herself. She was a veteran and belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a lifelong “Diet Dr. Pepper freak”, always having one in her hand.

Reba was preceded in death by her husband Gary, her parents, two brothers-in-law, and two nephews. She is survived by her three sons: Gary Sr. (Ben), Lebo, KS, Rick (Melinda) Sheldon, and Tom (Angie), Springfield; five grandchildren, Mitch Topping (Kourtney), Lamar, Spencer Piper (Kelsey), Springfield, Cydnee Regers (Clay), Butler, Tucker Piper (Lauren), Ozark, and Sawyer Piper, Springfield; six great-grandchildren, Konner Topping, Brylee Topping, Grayson Piper, Lane Piper, Kaiden Piper, and Kora Piper; sisters, Sue Sneed, Sheldon, Eva Park (In), Nevada, and Sally Bogart (Ralph), Sheldon; nieces and nephews, Gerri Douglas (Shane), Sheldon, Susan Grajales (Juan), Florida, and Bo Bogart (Amber), Sheldon; and many great nieces and nephews.

Anyone who knew Reba, knew her as “Ma”. All who met Reba, has a “Ma” story. She loved life and loved to laugh at the stories people told about her which usually begin as “You can’t make this stuff up”.

Memorial services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday September 17, 2023, at Sheldon Cemetery. Friends may call now and until noon on Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
