Obituary -Delbert Alan Cannon

Delbert Alan Cannon, age 65, Prescott, Kansas passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023. He was bon on January 28, 1958 in Fort Scott, Kansas the son of Norman and Karan Brown Cannon. 

He graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School in the Class of 1976. Delbert was united in marriage to Susan Deer on March 20, 1982. He worked in the construction industry most of his life, mainly as a carpenter. He enjoyed part time farming and ranching. Family was the most important part of his life. 

He liked to hunt, fish, and did a bit of cowboying as well. He was preceded in death by his son, Heath Cannon, on August 16, 1998, his father, Norman, two brothers, Terry and Jeff Cannon, and a father in law, Dale Deer. 

Delbert is survived by his wife Susan, two sons, Chase Cannon and wife Alison, and Jacob Summers and wife Tonya, a brother, Perry Cannon and wife Pam, two sisters, Debbie Cougill and Gail Crooks, and eight grandchildren, Colben, Harley, Lexi, Abigail, Aubreigh, Ryland, Brendan, and Sawyer.

Funeral service will be held 10 am Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Hume Christian Church. Burial will be in the Prescott Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, September 13, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.

Obituary - George Eugene Geiger Jr.(Gene)

George Eugene Geiger Jr.(Gene) 68 of Belton, Missouri passed away at Kansas City Hospice House on September 6, 2023. Gene was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 6, 1955 to Shirley (nee Newby) and George Geiger. He grew up in Barnett, MO and attended Eldon High School and received a bachelor's degree in History/Government at Columbia College.

Gene married Yulonda (nee Chambers) in 2001, and together they shared four children, George E. Geiger III, Jessica L Geiger, Penelope N Kennedy-Neeley, and Casey M Hartman (Brad). Gene entered the United States Air Force on April 10th,1975. He served as a Master Sergeant in the AMMO troop before being honorably discharged on September 1, 1992. Gene was a proud AMMO troop brother, "I.Y.A.A.Y.A.S". After the Air Force, he worked as a fireman/oiler for the Union Pacific Railroad before retiring in 2012. Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, and creating handmade custom knives. He was avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Chiefs, the Royals and Nascar. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter-day Saints.

He received the gift of life with a double lung transplant at Barnes Jewish Hospital on May 1, 2019.

Gene and his family are eternally grateful to his organ donor who provided Gene with four years and four months more of life.

Gene is survived by his wife Yulonda Geiger; children George Geiger III, Jessica Geiger, Penelope Kennedy-Neeley and Casey Hartman (Brad); granddaughter Avalynn and grandson Jayden; brothers Vince Geiger (Denise), TJ Geiger, Brad Geiger (Annette), Manual Duncan and his sister Mona May (Norman), along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Shirley Geiger, and his brother Herschel Andrew Geiger.

One arrested after fleeing from police on foot in Pittsburg Kansas

On Saturday, September 9th, 2023 around 06:31 p.m., officers with the Pittsburg Police Department were dispatched to the 500 block of E 6th St for a disturbance.
 
Upon officer’s arrival, they observed 40-year-old Jerome Devore, of Pittsburg, who was the subject of the call. Officers were aware of his multiple felony warrants from Crawford and Cherokee county courts. 

Mr. Devore fled back into the residence, and officers heard movement in a connected commercial building.

Officers obtained permission to search both premises, and the department’s K9 unit responded. The K9 located Devore hiding amongst the items stored in the building. Devore responded to verbal commands, and was taken into custody without incident.

Devore was taken to Crawford County Jail, where he is being held on no bond for his multiple warrants, and the charge of Interference with Law Enforcement.

Fatality accident early this morning in Henry County

In the early morning hours of September 10th around 1:50 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle fatality accident on Missouri 7 Highway just east of NE CR 681in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2008 Smart Car driven by 34 year old Kristopher T. Wilson of Warrensburg, Missouri crossed the centerline of traffic and struck the eastbound 2008 Ford Expedition driven by 70 year old Jeffrey A. Milam of Warsaw, Missouri head on.

Kristopher T. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident and he was transported to Consalus Funeral Home in Clinton.

Jeffrey A. Milam sustained minor injuries and he was transported by ambulance to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital for treatment. 

A passenger in his vehicle 38 year old Carly M. Milam sustained moderate injuries and she was transported by air ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

This is the Missouri State Highway Patrol 59th fatality accident of the year 2023.

Obituary - Mary Dolores Warta

Mary Dolores Warta, age 94, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away September 8, 2023. She was born on February 3, 1929 in Prescott, Kansas the daughter of Vye and Essie Cannon Lewis. She worked for Westinghouse as a clerk for several years before retirement. She attended the Prescott United Methodist Church and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution(DAR). She enjoyed gardening and collecting coins, dolls, and recipes.

She was also very interested in genealogy. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. Mary is survived by two sons, Marvin Warta and wife Janice, and Rawlin Warta and wife Mona, four grandchildren, Karen, Frank, Cassie and Christina, and seven great grandchildren, Kayla, Charlotte, Frank, Brennan, Rylie, Bobby, and Grace.

Funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Prescott United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Battlefield Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Olathe Hospice House. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
