Ellett Memorial Hospital September Employee of the month

We would like to congratulate Shandell Robinson Dalling on being chosen September Employee of the Month! Shandell always does what is asked of her in a timely manner and often seeks out additional work by regularly helping nursing and EMS by answering patient call lights and rooming patients.

She goes above and beyond to help fellow employees by checking on them and making sure they are comfortable and that she can be relied upon for help when needed. Shandell is a great communicator and ensures her supervisor and co-workers are well informed of needed information.

She is very organized, fastidious and pays attention to detail and ensure that all tasks are done correctly. Shandell has been in the radiology department since April of 2022 and has become an invaluable family member of Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City.

She is always friendly and we are happy to recognize her efforts. Once again, Congrats Shandell!!

BCMH September 11th Moment of Silence

In honor and remembrance We shared a moment of silence at the flagpole this morning, sharing with each other what we were doing that day 22 years ago.

Some of our EMS staff are now too young to remember or were not even born yet, our ambulance supervisor Russ Whisenand noted, but we will continue to remember and to tell them that as citizens were running for their life away from that horrific scene, first responders were running to it.

We recognize the valiant efforts of all first responders and healthcare workers who were involved that day. Thank you to our first responders and healthcare workers, for everything you do for the health and safety of our community.

Armed suicidal subject fires at police in Linn County Kansas

On September 08, 2023, at 8:36pm the Linn County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a call of a suicidal subject who was posting suicidal comments on Facebook.

The subject was known to visit the Linn County, Kansas area and friends and relatives believed that the subject may be in Linn County.

On the subject’s Facebook page, the subject suggested that he would end his life or cause it to be ended by Law Enforcement. The subject’s phone was pinged, and it was found to be in northern Bourbon County. Later, the phone was pinged again and found to be around 950 RD. and Gorman LN. (Critzer Lake area) in Linn County.

Deputy Sheriff’s arrived to search for the subject and found him at the Critzer Lake parking area. The subject had a handgun. One of the responding Deputies circled the parking area and took up post between the subject and a pier, where citizens were fishing. Deputies negotiated with the subject for some time and the subject suggested that he was “done” and he would not be “talked down”. The subject began to shoot erratically about the area. Deputies took cover and observed the subject.

Linn County Deputies responded with an armored vehicle to rescue the citizens and the Deputy from the area of the pier as they were pinned down on the pier and could not exit the area due to the subject firing shots erratically about the area. A drone was deployed to be able to watch the area and movements of the persons involved in the incident.

When Deputies entered the area in the armored vehicle to retrieve the innocent bystanders the subject began shooting and finally the subject took his own life. No gunfire was exchanged, the suicidal subject was the only shooter in this incident. The case is under further investigation.
