Bailey Named First Female Captain in Harrisonville Fire Department History
In a historic moment for the department and the entire community, the City of Harrisonville is excited to announce the promotion of Katie Bailey as the Harrisonville Fire Department’s first-ever female fire captain.
At only 25 years old, Bailey brings with her a wealth of experience, a spirit of leadership, and a passion for training that ignites the hearts of her colleagues.
Bailey, a graduate of Ray-Pec High School, attended the Cass Career Center for her Firefighter Certification before receiving her EMT Certification from HFD. Bailey also brings with her Pumper Apparatus Operator, Fire Instructor 1 and Fire Officer 1 certifications.
Since its organization as a volunteer department in the 1930s, and its move under the umbrella of the City of Harrisonville in 1987, the Harrisonville Fire Department has been an example of service, bravery, and camaraderie in our community. Bailey's journey to this new and influential role is a testament to her resilience, dedication and unwavering commitment to fire service.
Bailey’s ascent to captain underscores the department's commitment to inclusivity and recognizing merit above all else. Her leadership qualities have shone brightly throughout her career, earning her the respect and admiration of her peers.
Known for her selflessness and courage, Bailey has been a source of inspiration to her colleagues. Her tireless dedication to the safety and well-being of the community and her brothers and sisters in fire service knows no bounds. Whether battling blazes, responding to emergencies, or conducting community outreach programs, Katie's passion for service burns brightly.
One of Bailey’s defining traits is her fervent dedication to training and mentorship. Obituary - Virginia Ann Lindsey
Virginia Ann Lindsey, 88, of Harrisonville, MO, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Foxwood Springs in Raymore, MO. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with the visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or MO Hospice and Palliative Care in Virginia's honor.
Virginia was born on August 13, 1935, in Springfield, MO, the daughter of Theron and M. Elizabeth (Berg) Nash. She spent the first 9 years of her life in Springfield, MO, but then moved to Osceola, MO and graduated from Osceola High School. After high school, she moved to Kansas City, MO. In 1963, Virginia married the love of her life, Jordan Lindsey, in Kansas City, MO, and they raised a family together after moving to Harrisonville, MO in 1964. She spent her career as a bookkeeper for Mobil Oil Co and Spencer Chemical Co in Kansas City, MO, before her retirement in 1995.
Throughout her life, Virginia was not only a pillar of strength to her family but a guiding light to her community. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville, MO, Virginia also served in various voluntary roles, such as being a devoted volunteer for organizations like the March of Dimes, American Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society. Her commitment to helping others make her a cherished member of the Harrisonville Business & Professional Women, a Girl Scout Leader Assistant, and a Boy Scout Webelo Leader Assisant. Virginia touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, compassion, and generosity. She will be deeply missed but her legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jordan; her son, Shawn Lindsey; and her brother, Jerry Nash. She is survived by her son, Mark (Stacy) Lindsey; her daughter, Brenda Boly; her grandchildren: Lindsey (Jonathan) Connor, Bradley Freeman, Felix Lindsey, and Ethan (Kayt) Lindsey; her great-grandchildren: Katelyn Love, Zachariah Costello, Everett Lindsey, and Jackson Lindsey; her sisters: Susan (David) Hilty, Mary Lynn (Dub) Townsend, and Lana (Scott) Cutbirth; and her sister-in-law, Peggie Nash; as well as, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family members, all of whom were touched by her kindness, grace, and unwavering love.

Grass Fire in rural Amoret
The Amoret Fire Department along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies are on scene of a grass fire on J Highway just north of 52 Highway in rural Amoret.

Cattle theft in Henry County
On February 19, 2024 Henry County Sheriff's Deputy Evans responded to the 1100 block of SW 650 Road regarding the theft of several head of cattle. The owner of the cattle said it appeared that someone had backed up to a gate and loaded approximately 16 head of 400-800 pound calves from his property. The suspect vehicle appears to be a flat bed truck pulling a fifth-wheel long aluminum style trailer.
The calves were found just after 10:00 a.m. the same day near Montrose. It is believed that the thieves did not properly close the back gate of the trailer and the calves exited the trailer. According to the owner, some of the calves appeared to have injuries but he was not able to evaluate them at this time.

Structure fire in Rich Hill
The Rich Hill Fire Department along with Rich Hill Police Department is on scene of a structure fire at 100 East Maple Street in Rich Hill.
The structure is said to be a fully involved out building fire. Mid America Live will update when further information is made available.

Butler Sophomore Kellen Long won his matches today and is in the semifinals and will wrestle tomorrow morning.
Sophomore Preston Mallatt and Damian Alkire both won in the first round and both lost their 2nd round matches but won their wrestleback matches and will also wrestle tomorrow! Best of luck bears!!

Butler woman escapes serious injury in Bates County rollover accident
On Wednesday February 21st around 6:31 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Missouri 52 Highway at CR SE 1426 in rural eastern Bates County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2007 Infiniti driven by 46 year old Kelsey K. Palmer of Butler, Missouri ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and struck a fence.
Kelsey K. Palmer sustained minor injuries and she was transported by ambulance to Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri for treatment.
