Obituary - Steven R. Mentzer

Steven R. Mentzer, 29, passed away at his residence in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 9, 2024.

Steven was born on February 3, 1995, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Christopher Mentzer and Christina Lucier. He spent part of his youth in Clinton, Missouri, before moving to Kansas City with his mother. He worked in residential construction as a labor for a remodeling contractor.

Steven was taken too soon. He loved his children and spending time with them as often as he could. He loved the outdoors, skateboarding and fishing. He could make you laugh no matter what the situation was. He could light up the room. He would give you the shirt off his back even if he was struggling himself. Steven was unpredictable in many ways, but it was good ways. He would tell you that he was coming at a certain time and show up early. He would show up unexpectedly, bring a surprise, or do something for you even without asking. One of the good ones taken in the prime of his life, he certainly will be missed.

Steven is survived by his mother, Christina (Donovan) Lucier; 2 sons, Cayden Mentzer and Blake Mentzer; 3 daughters, Rosaleigh Martin, Chloe Mentzer and Karleigh Mentzer; 2 brothers, Brandon Mentzer and Anthony Mentzer; many other family and friends especially the Lindsay’s and Dorman’s. He was preceded by his grandparents.

Memorial Service will be Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 7:00 PM. Service will be at Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, Missouri.

Family has asked that Memorial Donations be made in memory of Steven Mentzer to Consalus Funeral Home / Final Disposition Expenses. (Make Checks Payable to Consalus Funeral Home, with Steven Mentzer on the memo line). Memorial Donations may be left in the care of Consalus Funeral Home.

Butler spring city wide clean up information

The City of Butler will have its annual spring city wide clean up on April 29th- May 3rd

Countywide Disposal will pick up old furniture, appliances, paint, batteries, and miscellaneous junk.

There won't be a traditional north side/ south side pick up this year so please have your trash or brush at the curbside before Monday, April 29th at 6 am.

Obituary - Wiley Gene Scott

On Sunday evening, March 17th, 2024 Wiley Scott passed away at the age of 85 years old.

Born in Iconium, MO on July 8, 1938, he was the son of Delbert Eugene Scott and Vera Gertrude Cobb. Wiley graduated from Warsaw High School in 1956. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force until 1963. After serving time in the Air Force, Wiley moved to Kansas City and began his family, He began working at Bendix/Honeywell where he spent his career until retirement.

Wiley is survived by his brother Larry Scott of Blue Springs, MO and his two sons, Lance Scott of Pleasant Hill, MO and Rickie Scott of Lee’s Summit, MO. Wiley has 5 grandchildren - Aubrey and Matthew Scott (Lance) and Kendall, Alexa and Laynie Scott (Rickie). He is proceeded in death by his parents, Delbert and Vera Scott, a brother Jack Scott and daughter in law, Kimberly Scott (Rickie).

Wiley requested that there be no formal services following his passing. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Beautiful Savior Nursing Home at 1003 S Cedar Street in Belton, MO. 64012

Obituary - Frank L. Schooley

Frank Livingston Schooley, 87, Nevada, MO passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. Frank was born October 2, 1936 in Nevada, MO to Frank L. and Dora L. (James) Schooley. He married Gaila M. Stafford, and she preceded him in death on October 19, 1977.

Frank graduated from Natoma High School in Natoma, KS with the Class of 1955. He then served in the United States Navy from 1955-1959. Following his return from the Navy he worked at CBI as a painter for 10 years. In the early 70’s Frank began his own painting business in Nevada and continued with it until his retirement in 2020. He was a member of BPOE Elks #564, and Eagles Lodge #3770 in Nevada.

Survivors include four children: Patricia A. Hancock (Dennis), Nevada, MO, Teresa Morton, Webb City, MO, Larry L. Schooley, Cassville, MO, and Lynn D. Schooley, Nevada, MO; a daughter-in-law, Diane Schooley, Foster, MO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Gaila, he is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Francine M. Schooley; a son, Frank L. Schooley, Jr.; and five siblings, Charles Brown, Jim Brown, Pat Perriman, Jo Ann Engle, and Mary Dagley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Papinville historical and cemetery association to meet

 

The regular annual meeting of the Papinville Historical and Cemetery Association will be on Thursday evening, April 11, 2024, 7 pm at the museum. If anyone would like to help with a great organization and become familiar with local history then come and be a part of this wonderful group.

We will be electing officers and deciding many other items of great importance. Some include planning future events, one as early as June 8th. We will be updating our by-laws and discussing a building project.

We will be letting everyone know about all this after the business meeting. But if you want to know about it first, come to the meeting on April 11th. That way you will not only have the information first but you can help in the decision making. Plan to be there.
