Butler Rotary Club News 5/1/24

Butler Rotarian Gary Schowengerdt, Student of the month Noah Lentz, Circuit Judge Brandon Baker of Osceola, Program Chairman Stacey Seider Lawson, and Rotarians Chris White and Joanne Godfrey Wednesday at our weekly luncheon.

Judge Baker hears cases in Bates, Benton, Henry and St Clair and his talk was informative and he answered many questions. Thank you Judge Baker and your most efficient court reporter, Jenny Johnson, for spending your lunch time with us.

Neoma Marguerite Anderson, age 90 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Copper Rock Healthcare in Rogersville, Missouri. She was born February 11, 1934 to Charles Byrd and Sarah “Sally” Kinney Turpin in Butler, Missouri.

Neoma is survived by a son, Neil Anderson and wife Sabrina of Springfield, Missouri; a daughter, Virginia Thompson and husband Mike of Butler, Missouri; four grandchildren, Lyssa Lile and husband Derek, Christina Stockwell and husband Sean, Abby Smith and husband Blake and Spencer Anderson; and seven great-grandchildren, Izaya, Serenity, Lydia, Noah, Madison, Ben and Lexi. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Anderson on January 4, 2022; and a great-grandson, Masyn.

Strong Hitting Not Enough As Butler Varsity Bears Baseball Team Falls To The Midway Vikings 

The Butler Bears Baseball Team fell 11-6 to Midway Varsity Vikings on Monday despite out-hitting them eight to seven. 

Sophomore Bryson Kash led the Bears with three hits. Midway rallied for the victory despite trailing 5-0 in the third. The Bears were the first to get on the board in the first when Maddox Fennewald grounded out, scoring one run. 

Butler added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Eli Cox singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Brayden Jackson drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Vikings flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring nine runs on four hits to take a 10-5 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Brodi Cook that drove in two. Brock Lines started the game for the Bears. 

The righty allowed four hits and nine runs (three earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking nine. Trevyn Adams led things off on the mound for Midway. He gave up three hits and five runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out seven and walking five.

Eli Cox drove the middle of the lineup, leading Butler with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-3 on the day. Brandon Hammett stole two bases. The Bears had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Butler stole seven bases in the game. 

The number seven hitter, Nathan Meza, showed the depth of Midway's lineup, by leading them with two hits in three at bats. Jackson Bridgers and Cook each drove in two runs for Midway. 

The Vikings had patience at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Logan Clifford and Brody Bowers led the team with two walks each. 

The Midway Vikings ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. The Butler Bears welcome the Sherwood Marksmen on Tuesday for their next game.








Stormy Thursday for the area

Widespread showers and storms will affect the area today. While severe weather is not expected, a few storms could be strong this afternoon, with gusty winds and small hail possible. Additionally, heavy rain could lead to localized flooding. Precipitation moves away from the area tonight with a dry forecast for Friday. 

Precipitation returns this weekend with more showers and storms Saturday and Sunday. No strong or severe storms are expected with this activity.

Way to go Maddie

Please help H & E West Mo Veterinary Clinic of Appleton City congratulate our 2024 scholarship recipient Maddie Wilson!!

Maddie will graduate from Appleton City High School this month and plans to attend NEO A&M as a member of their livestock judging team.

Maddie has been involved with many activities both in her high school and the community.

She plans to pursue a career in Animal Health. Congratulations! And best of luck to you next year!

Obituary - Opal Marie Frankenfield

Opal Marie Frankenfield, 70, of Spring Hill, passed away on April 30, 2024, at Olathe Medical Center. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, starting at 6:00 pm, located at Dengel & Son-Paola Chapel. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, starting at 11:00 am, also at the Paola Chapel. Burial will follow the service at the Paola Cemetery.

She was born on January 16, 1954, to Daniel and Zora (Daniels) Muncy in Aurora, MO. Opal worked as a Warehouse Associate for JC Pennys for over 30 years.

On June 22, 1972, she married Lynn Frankenfield. They made their home in Spring Hill, Kansas, where they raised their children. Opal and Lynn were united in marriage for 51 years. Opal was an avid gardener. Showing and teaching others how to preserve and can her summer harvest.

Opal was a lifeline to the Muncy family. She was truly invested in the lives of her siblings. It may have been a mystery but she always seemed to have the answer. Always willing to help out of love and devotion and not obligation. Her friends say that she was such a great lady and they feel the world is a little more empty with her gone. She was a loving grandmother, engaged in the lives of her grandchildren. Always wanting to spend time with them. Opal will be missed immensely by all who knew her.

Opal is survived by her children, Daughter, Michelle (Ed) Hellwig, Daughter, Peggy (Leon) Reiter, Brother, James "Bud" Muncy, Brother, Donald Ray Muncy, Sister, Ella May Kelley, Sister, Sara Churchill, Sister, Mary (Buddy) Carpenter, Sister, Marine Keating. She was also survived by 8 grandchildren; Shauna, Jolie, and Audra Cartwright, and Lucy and Bill Hellwig, Lucas, Nathan, and Lillian Reiter, as well as her loving dog, Buster.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Lynn, Grandson, Timothy Cartwright, Brother, DP "Junior" Muncy, Brother, Lee Muncy, Brother, Charles "Charlie" Muncy.

Obituary - Lea Agnes (Woodie) Bailey

Lea Agnes (Woodie) Bailey, 92, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

A private family service is being held on Thursday, May 2, 2024. A celebration of life will be held in North Carolina later in May.

Lea was born in Idelwild, NC, the daughter of the late Rowie Woodie and the late Pliner (Baker) Woodie. On August 04, 1951, she married Ernest H. Bailey in Altanta, GA. Lea worked for AT&T for 26 years.

Lea is survived by her daughter Diann (Greg Clinkingbeard) Roche, Prairie Village, KS and daughter Donna Patrick, Harrisonville, MO; two grandchildren, Joe Knotts & Danielle Knotts. Also survived by her siblings Dayton Woodie, Anna Belle Cox, Thomas (Hilda) Woodie, Dorman (Lucille) Woodie & Velma (William) Ellis, all of North Carolina, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, her father and mother and the following siblings: Reba (Woodie) Bonewitz, Edsel Woodie and Hayden Woodie.

Pleasanton Kansas man injured in two vehicle crash in Bates County

On Wednesday May 1st around 2:05 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County EMS, Hume Fire Department, the Bates County Sheriff's Office and Rich Hill Fire Department responded to a two vehicle accident at Route U and V Highway in rural Foster.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2012 Ford F-250 driven by 30 year old William J. Westhoff of Pittsburg, Kansas was attempting to turn and was struck by a 2012 Ford F-150 driven by 68 year old Julia E. Smith of Pleasanton, Kansas. 

A passenger in F-150 83 year old Harold E. Rittenhouse of Pleasanton, Kansas sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
