EF0 Tornado in St. Clair County on May 7th
An NWS survey team determined that an EF0 tornado touched down near the intersection of County Roads NE201 and NE 550 3 miles southeast of Lowry City and extended to County Road 301 2 miles south of Lowry City, causing tree damage in a convergent manner. Additional wind damage extended to the southwest and northeast of the tornado track.

Hume man arrested in Vernon County
On Sunday morning around 12:04 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County arrested 65 year old David E. Shelton of Hume, Missouri.
Mr. Sheldon was arrested on the following charges 1.) Felony Resisting Arrest - Fleeing 2.) Possession of a controlled substance -Methamphetamine 3.) Possession of drug paraphernalia 4.) Exceeded posted speed limit 5.) Failure to maintain right half of the roadway 6.) No rear license plate lamp.
David E. Sheldon was booked into the Vernon County Jail in Nevada where he is currently being held on a 24 hour hold.

Obituary - Connie Beth Wallace
Connie Beth Wallace, 60, Nevada, MO passed away, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Connie was born December 27, 1963 in Kansas City, KS to Delbert Lee and Donna Kay (Gill) Merritt.
Connie is survived by her husband, Brian E. Wallace of the home; three children, Samuel Cawthorne, Nevada, Brian Wallace, Nevada, and Caitlin Wallace, Bellevue, NE; her mother, Donna Pruett; and a sister, Cathy Blacklock. She was a proud grandmother to Bradly Cawthorne, Katherine Cawthorne, and Brian Patrick Cawthorne; as well as great-grandmother to Levi Cawthorne.
Connie was devoted to her family first and foremost. She loved to go to “Mountain Man” rendezvous and reenacting the 1825 to 1840 era. She enjoyed fishing and the following dinner of catfish. Connie recently developed a passion for making bracelets out of seed beads and sewing haversacks. She had a love of animals of all types, but especially loved horses and dogs.
No services are planned at this time.

Ladies Luncheon to be held June 15th
The Bates County Republican Women invite all women to attend a Salad and Soup Luncheon. The event will be held on June 15th.This event will be held at the Alley Tavern Hall at 11:30 a.m.
The Luncheon is free, but a freewill donations bucket will be available. Thank you!
