Henry County Emergency Management Director Terminated

Henry County Emergency Management Director, Brad Wright, was terminated by the Henry County Commissioners at Noon on Thursday, May 23rd. According to Henry County Clerk Rick Watson, Henry County Organizations and Communities have been notified of the change so that they can adjust accordingly. 

Watson confirmed that the Emergency Management program will continue to operate as usual and according to State regulation, that Presiding Commissioner Jim Stone will temporarily fill the position until a new director is put in place. 

Watson reminds everyone that in case of emergency, please contact your local law enforcement and fire departments.

Obituary - Bob Stein

Bob Stein age 81 of Garden City, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Crown Care Rehab and Healthcare Center, Harrisonville, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life visitation and a Memorial Mass will be posted once that information is available. Inurnment at Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Memorial Fund and send in care to Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Traffic Alert: Several Emergency Personnel is onscene of a motor vehicle accident at Business 49 and TT Highway at this time. 

No one is said to be injured in this accident but please SLOW DOWN and use caution if you must travel is area!

McGennis Youth Center gears up for Summer

The swim season kicks off Saturday, May 25, at the McGennis Youth Center. Swim is open at the Center Wednesday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. A certified lifeguard will be on duty. The price is $2 per swimmer. Groups that wish to swim other hours should call the Youth Center (417-395-3216) to make a reservation.

A fishing derby, co-sponsored by the Fourth of July Committee and McGennis Youth Center, is set for Sunday, June 2 at the Center. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the east shelter house near the tennis courts. The derby will run from 6 to 7. A parent or guardian must accompany each child. The event is open to children ages 3 through 15. The fishing contest will be held in four age groups and prizes will be awarded in each age category. A hot dog roast will follow. The hot dogs are donated by the Rich Hill Café.

 McGennis Youth Center is located five miles west of Rich Hill on A Highway then four miles south on Route WW. Watch for signs.

Remembering Joey Thornburg

The Nevada Speedway would like to send many thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Joey Thornburg.

Joey passed away after injuries from a car accident. A full obituary will be made available at a later time.
