Obituary - Joey Shane Thornburg

Joey Shane Thornburg was born on October 31, 1973, 12 minutes after his twin brother, Jody at Butler Memorial Hospital to Edgar and Betty Ann Thornburg (Ryan). Joey passed away at Mercy Hospital in Joplin on May 22, 2024 at the age of 50 as a result of an automobile accident.

He was a heavy equipment operator for 20 plus years at APAC and he continued his dirt working at Dirt Dynasty.

Joey treasured his family and friends. Dirt track racing was his passion. If you couldn't find him with family, you could find him racing, hunting, or fishing. 

Joey had a hard exterior, but if you had the pleasure of knowing him and loving him, there was nothing he wouldn't do for anyone. When he loved, he loved hard.

He is survived by children: Courtney Terpening (husband Ethan) and Dakota Thornburg (wife Brhett), Gavin, Bradley, and Jace; his grandchildren: Courtlynn, Cannon, and Elsie Terpening, and Koleson Thornburg; his eight siblings: Jim, Edgar, Mike, Butch, Sandy, Kevin, Betty Ann, and twin brother Jody; lifelong friend Kevin Gregg; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Chevelle.

Funeral Service will be 5 pm Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at the Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill, Missouri. Online condolences can be left at www.heuserfunerals.com.

Update: Pilot escapes injury in plane crash at Butler Airport

 

At approximately 1pm today dispatch was notified about a small airplane that crashed by the Butler Missouri airport.

On arrival to the scene, first responders found the airplane in a hay field east of the runways. The pilot had been able to parachute from the plane prior to the plane crashing and was located at an hanger at the airport.
Everyone involved was treated by ems and released at the scene. The plane is a total loss.

The Bates County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the NTSB and the FAA in their investigations. Media inquires should be directed to those federal agencies

Obituary - James Terry Cofield Jr.

James Terry Cofield Jr., age 72, of Lamar, Missouri passed away May 20, 2024, at his home. James was born November 26, 1951 in Sherman, Texas to James Terry Cofield Sr. and Betty Jane (Burton) Cofield.

James served in the United States Army from 1971 - 1977. After his term in the Army he sold auto parts and worked in construction before moving to Missouri to help his Dad full-time with cattle and farming.

Survivors include three sons, Tra (Chanstin) Cofield, Jared Cofield and Joel Cofield, all of Lamar, MO; one daughter, Heather Cofield of Kingtston, Oklahoma; one sister, Dorothy (Charlie) Chastain of Farmington, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Chris Chesire, Kaden Pennell, Kobi Shores, Jace Goodman, Rylan Cofield, Jona Cofield, Abel Cofield, Teigan Cofield and James Terry Cofield IV "Thumper"; a lifelong friend, Glenn Hammock.

James was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Tony Wilmoth and Harper Wilmoth, as well as many close friends including Tommy Gregory and Randy Blaser.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow in Howell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

Two escape serious injury in UTV crash

On Friday May 24th around 4:00 p.m the Missouri State Highway in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on B Highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occured when the Northbound 2020 Polaris Razor driven by a 52 year old Michael E. Masten of Butler, Missouri began to slide and overturn.

Mr. Masten along with a passenger in the UTV 25 year old Houston T. Bridgewater of Rich Hill, Missouri both sustained minor injuries.

Harrisonville man injured in Cass County motorcycle crash

On Friday May 24th around 1:04 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a motorcycle accident on Missouri 291 Highway at 225th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2006 Triumph Motorcycle driven by 21 year old Austin J. Bullock of Harrisonville, Missouri lost control of the vehicle, causing it to lay on its side.

Mr. Bullock sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Central Cass Fire and EMS to the Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Happening Now: Plane crash at Butler Airport

Several emergency personnel is on scene of a small airplane crash at the Butler Airport at this time. 

The pilot was not injured and the plane went down just east of the airport in a field. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

John Roger Mallatt, age 78 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. He was born September 12, 1945 to John Preston and Vera Lucille Spears Mallatt in Butler, Missouri.

John is survived by two brothers, Scott and Mike Mallatt Sr. and wife Suzie all of Butler, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Carla Besendorfer and husband Dan of Butler Missouri; three brothers-in-law, Kenny Cooper of Butler, Missouri, Gerald Shobe and wife Debra of Rich Hill, Missouri and Kenneth Barnes of Raytown, Missouri; four nephews, Brandon Berry and wife Stephanie, Michael Mallatt and wife Michelle, Kyle Mallatt and wife Rachelle, and Matt Mallatt and wife Stevie; a special niece Sharise Vaughn and husband John; his dog, Tiny; and many great-nieces and great nephews that he loved like his own. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen Harper Mallatt; two sisters, Sharon Barnes and Ramona Stone; one niece, Kendra Albert; and his dog, Monkey.
