Obituary - Frankie Lou Hanley

Frankie Hanley, 84 of Cleveland, Missouri passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at her home in Cleveland. Cremation with private services to be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816-657-4400). Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Frankie Lou Hanley was born March 22, 1940 in Waldron, Arkansas, the daughter of Harvey and Tina Scarborough Black.

Frankie lived in California until she moved to Minnesota in 1996. She loved her time on her farm in Baker, Minnesota. The friends in Minnesota and North Dakota always held a very special place in her heart. Her time in Minnesota was one part of her life that she always said she would do again. She cared for 100 animals and provided a loving and safe home for countless foster children. In 2007 she moved to Cleveland, MO. and continued to open her heart and home to foster children.

Frankie was a member of the Baker-Downer Presbyterian Church and attended services at the Stilwell Methodist Church in Stilwell, KS.

The simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy. She loved quiet times with family and friends. She enjoyed road trips across the country, especially the trips that sometimes took all of the wrong turns. One of those trips ended with her and her traveling cat, Junior stalking a moose and spending the night in a condemned tent cabin in the Grand Tetons!

Frankie also loved spending time with her friends, family, and neighbors at the dinner theatre, the Greenwood Tea Room, at POW WOWS, and prowling antique stores and thrift stores with friends and family in search of treasures and chocolate sets. She also had a love of cooking and was known for her meals that fed the soul. Her meatloaf, ribs, chicken and dumplings, potato soup, and crawfish tail soup were the best. She simply had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Her strength, wisdom, courage, and sense of humor were contagious and inspirational to everyone she met. Her battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed her courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile and a sense of humor.

Frankie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and life partner. She cared for all those around her, offering love, support, hope, and great home-cooking to everyone. She will be long missed and forever remembered.

Frankie was preceded in death by her parents and infant son John Christopher Oak. She is survived by her sons, Brian Oak and wife Sandy of Renton, WA., and David Hanley of San Jose, CA., granddaughter Shannon Hanley of San Francisco, CA., and partner Gloria Hartman of Cleveland, MO., along with her beloved yourkee, Itti Bitti

More information about the plane crash yesterday in Butler

Late breaking news on the plane crash yesterday in Butler.

Saturday afternoon around 1pm, an unfortunate incident at the SkyDive KC drop zone at Butler airport resulted in the total loss of the jump aircraft.

During the jump run, one of the skydivers' reserve parachutes deployed and pulled him out of the airplane, fouling the tail surfaces and causing a loss of control.

Fortunately, everyone reacted as they were trained and all seven people aboard the turbine-powered Cessna 206 were able to successfully exit the aircraft and descend under canopy.

The airplane crashed in a vacant field about 80 yards east of the Butler airport property. There was no fire or other property damage.

Clerk Whispers "You won $50,000" to Bates County Powerball Player

A Missouri Lottery player who thought he won a $4 Powerball prize was surprised when a clerk told him otherwise.

"It was a week or so after the drawing,” the winner recalled. “I normally check all the numbers here at home but, that one time, all I checked was the Powerball."

Under the impression he had won $4 by matching only the Powerball, he returned to Casey’s, 100 N. Highway 71 in Adrian, with his ticket.

“It was interesting,” he shared. “The clerks at Casey's said they'd known for a few days that someone had one. When I turned the ticket in, the young lady whispered, 'You won $50,000!'"

His ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers, plus the Powerball, in the April 17 drawing. The winning numbers were 24, 29, 44, 47 and 54, with a Powerball of 2.

"I guess I should start checking all the numbers," he laughed after claiming his prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City regional office on May 13.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Saturday’s jackpot is estimated at $120 million.

Players who purchased tickets in Bates County in FY23 won more than $1.9 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $195,000 in commissions and bonuses, and education programs received more than $650,000 in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
