Obituary - Lucille McCarthy

Celebration of life services for Lucille McCarthy of Butler, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5th at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel.

Martha Lucille McCarthy, age 89 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Butler Center. She was born July 27, 1934 to Joseph Charles and Martha Elizabeth Brown Seals in Kansas City, Kansas.

Lucille is survived by two daughters, Carol Henry and husband Jim of Butler, Missouri and Mary Gibson and husband Mike of Moberly, Missouri; four grandchildren, Julie Lines (Jason), Jamie Young (Tim), Amanda and Josse; 12 great-grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Emmalie, Brock, TJ, Carson, Dalton, David, Azalea, Atticus, Shelby and Haylee; and two great-great-grandchildren, Fynn and Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Randy Appleberry; and two brothers, Donald and Melvin Seals.

Harrisonville woman injured in three vehicle accident in Cass County

On Friday May 31st around 4:26 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a three vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 170.6 in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a northbound 2022 Toyota Sienna driven by 40 year old Shireen N. LNU of Groves, Texas was slowed for congested traffic when a vehicle behind her a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 22 year old Taylor J. Goodfellow of West Plains, Missouri struck the rear of a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by 39 year old Misty M. Overcast of Harrisonville, Missouri causing the Impala to travel off the left side of the roadway, and strike a median cable barrier. The Impala then struck the rear left corner of the Toyota Sienna.

Misty M. Overcast sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by South Metro Fire to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

Bourbon County Kansas man arrested on three felony charges and one misdemeanor charge

According to a complaint filed with the District Court of Bourbon County, KS, 27-year-old Alex Keanu Jacobs has been charged with a Severity-Level-3-Person Felony count of attempted murder in the second degree. For allegedly strangling his victim, as well as banging their head on a brick floor and disconnecting their calls to 911 on Friday, April 26th, 2024.

The complaint shows Jacobs was also charged with Severity-Level-7-Person Felony count of aggravated domestic battery for allegedly impeding the circulation of blood or breathing of someone with whom he has a relationship with or lives with. 

Mr. Jacobs also received a charge of Severity-Level-9-Person Felony for allegedly unlawfully communicating a threat with intent to place another in fear, as well as a Class-A-Person Misdemeanor for allegedly unlawfully restraining another person to interfere substantially with their liberty.

The arrest warrant wasn't received and executed by the Bourbon County Sheriff's office until Thursday, May 30th, over a month after the alleged incident.

Jacobs is still waiting for a date for his first appearance in court. His bond is currently set at $100,000.




Nevada teenager injured in Vernon County rollover crash

On Friday May 31st around 6:20 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident around one mile east of Moundville, Missouri on Talley Bend Road.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 17 year old juvenile female from Nevada, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the road before striking a fence and overturning.

A passenger in the van a 17-year-old juvenile female from Nevada, Missouri sustained minor injuries and she was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Vehicle fire this morning in Rich Hill

In the early morning hours of Saturday June 1st the Rich Hill Fire Department along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle fire at a residence located on Elm Street in Rich Hill.

No one was injured in this fire and the cause of the incident is still under investigation at this time.
