Missouri to observe Summer Safety Day June 12th

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – As summer weather arrives, Missourians are reminded to be aware of the dangers posed by extreme heat and humidity and take precautions as they spend more time outdoors.

“Extreme heat and humidity are dangerous seasonal hazards in Missouri that can place a lot of stress on the body, especially for more vulnerable groups like children, the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions,” State Emergency Management Agency Director Jim Remillard said. “It’s important for Missourians to learn about these risks in advance and know how to protect themselves to stay safe and healthy.”

To help Missourians prepare, the state will observe Summer Safety Day on Wednesday, June 12. SEMA and the National Weather Service (NWS) encourage all Missourians to pay attention to local forecasts and plan accordingly when activities are outside. Humidity can amplify the feeling of heat measured by a heat index, so it is especially important to keep a close eye on friends and family and know the signs of heat-related illnesses.

Remember, never leave a child or pet alone in a vehicle. Even on a cooler day, the temperature inside a vehicle can rise by 20 degrees in 10 minutes and pose a real threat to anyone left inside. Stress, distraction and being out of a normal routine can all contribute to forgetting a child in a car seat. Always “look before you lock” and check the back seat each time you exit your vehicle.

Remember these other safety tips to protect yourself and your family during the summer heat:

  • If the weather forecast calls for heat and humidity, limit outdoor exposure.
  • Drink plenty of water and limit intake of alcoholic beverages.
  • Eat light, well-balanced meals at regular intervals.
  • If left outside, make sure your pet has plenty of fresh water and access to shade.
  • Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothes that cover as much skin as possible.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and head. Use at least SPF 30 sunscreen.
  • Avoid strenuous work during the warmest part of the day. Use the buddy system when working in extreme heat and take frequent breaks.
  • If you do not have air conditioning, consider spending the warmest part of the day in public buildings such as libraries, schools, movie theaters, shopping malls or other community facilities. Find a nearby cooling center near you here.
  • Check on family, friends and neighbors who may not have air conditioning or spend much of their time alone.
  • Be aware of medications that may impair the body's response to heat, including antihistamines, tranquilizers and some medications for heart disease.

Warsaw Fire Department responds to fire in the dorms of Baptist Ridge Camp

On June 5th around 11:31 p.m. the Warsaw Fire Department got toned for smoke coming out of an attic from one of the dorms at Baptist Ridge Camp.

Upon investigation it was found an attic exhaust fan motor burnt up causing all the smoke. The occupants were some amazing young ladies that couldn't be anymore excited to see us in action.

Since their night was interrupted, we took the time and allowed them go through the trucks and play with some sirens to make their night as well as their camp experience one to remember for years to come.

We would also like to thank the camp advisors for allowing the experience of a lifetime to happen and allow us to take some pictures.

Adrian man arrested on assault charges

According to a complaint filed with the Associate District Court of Bates County, MO, Mark Eugene Tenholder of rural Adrian has been charged with two counts of Class D Felony 2nd degree Assault.

According to a Probable Cause Statement, at around 6:41 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4th, one of Tenholders alleged victims captured a video of him repeatedly driving in front of her house in a gray Ford F-250.

The victim then went to dinner in Adrian, MO and as she was leaving the establishment she spotted Tenholder outside waiting for her. A second victim saw Tenholder as well and offered to drive the first victim to pick up her car.

The second victim reported in the probable cause statement that Tenholder then allegedly started to follow someone connected to the two victims out of town so they decided to pick up the car at a later time.

As the victims were driving down State Route 18 the first victim received a call from someone warning her Tenholder was waiting for them to drive by at a sports complex, so she started to record a video that eventually showed Tenholder's vehicle start to overtake the victims before allegedly going into the lane they were driving in and running them off the road.

According to the probable cause statement, while being interviewed by a Bates County Sheriff's Deputy the first victim gave the deputy an address where Tenholder might be located.

The Deputy then went to that address and spotted the Ford F250 shown in both videos in the driveway before making contact with Tenholder at the door. Tenholder told the deputy he overtook a vehicle on Missouri State Route 18 but did not run anyone off the road.

Mr. Tenholder then said he would make a statement at the jail but once Tenholder and the deputy arrived there he no longer wanted to.

According to the probable cause statement, Tenholder currently has an Order of Protection against him from the first victim and has already violated it multiple times.

Mr. Tenholder was put in jail on a 24-hour hold Tuesday night, A warrant for Tenholder's arrest was made Wednesday, June 5th with bond set at $20,000.
