New ALDI Store coming to Clinton

ALDI is bringing a new store to Clinton. The new location will be approximately 12,000 sq feet of retail space and will increase the size of their parking lot to hold nearly 100 vehicles. 

ALDI promises an environmentally friendly store with bigger aisles and ample refrigeration to accommodate an expanded and newer fresh and convenient food selection. 

According to Skyler Jones, Vice President of the Olathe division of ALDIs, the new location is expected to open this fall and is near to current ALDI location in Clinton.

Traffic Alert: Crash on 7 Highway in Cass County

Southbound 7 Highway at Kircher Rd. is closed due to a motor vehicle accident with minor injuries reported. Please avoid the area if at all possible.


Two arrested in Cedar County

According to two complaints filed with the Circuit Court of Cedar County Mathew Richards of El Dorado Springs, MO and Christopher Hon of Osceola, MO were each charged with the class D felony of Stealing and the class E felony of Property Damage 1st Degree for what appears to be the same incident.

According to the complaints, Richards and Hon allegedly stole a 20-foot racing trailer and purposefully caused damage to the axles.

According to two Warrants for Arrest, Hon and Richards were both placed on a $20,000 cash-only bond.

Arkansas man seriously injured in Bates County Crash

On Saturday June 8th around 1:54 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and the Rich Hill Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 123.8 north of Rich Hill.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the northbound 2017 Chrysler Pacifica driven by 91 year old Glenn H. Whitting of Bella Vista, Arkansas travelled off the left side of the roadway, through the median and across the southbound lanes of traffic, before coming to rest partially submerged in the river.

Mr. Whitting sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by Life Flight Eagle to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

Obituary - James "Jim" L. Schofield

Graveside service and interment for James "Jim" L. Schofield of Lee's Summit, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at he Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. No scheduled visitation. 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to a local No-kill pet rescue organization of your choice or to First Tee of Greater Kansas City. He was passionate in his desire to further the game of golf through today’s youth. Online condolences www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

After a year-long battle with cancer, James “Jim” L. Schofield passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024. He leaves behind his beloved cat Sophie, several cousins and many dear friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Verne, his mother Blanche and his older brother Bill. Jim was born on November 18, 1946 in Butler, Missouri.

 

Clinton woman wins $50,000 on new scratchers ticket

A $50,000 prize was won on a “$5,000,000 Fortune” Scratchers ticket only one day after the game was released.

“I like getting the new tickets. It seems like I have more luck with them,” the winner explained.

She purchased the winning ticket at Walmart, 1712 E. Ohio St., in Clinton.

“It was under number ‘19’ – just one $50,000 prize,” she recalled. “I was so shocked I thought I was going to have a heart attack!”

“$5,000,000 Fortune” is the newest $50 Scratchers game from the Missouri Lottery. It currently offers over $249.7 million in unclaimed prizes, including three top prizes of $5 million, three $1 million prizes and 39 additional $50,000 prizes.

Cass County K-9 Unit Assists in Apprehension After Suspect Flees Pursuit on Foot

Just before 5 p.m. this afternoon, deputies attempted a vehicle stop in the area of 58 Highway and Strasburg after they observed that it was speeding. The driver accelerated and attempted to flee from deputies  causing them to initiate a pursuit. 

The driver came to a stop on 179th St., east of E Highway with the suspect fleeing on foot from the vehicle. The Sheriff’s K9 Unit located the suspect a short time later. He has since been identified as 32-year-old Nicholas Davis. 

Mr. Davis has an active warrant for misdemeanor fraud in Kansas City. He’s being held at the Cass County jail, with charges from today’s incident pending. No injuries occurred during this incident.
