Evelyn Sample Is Running For Bates County Fair Princess!

Evelyn Marie Sample is the thirteen year old daughter of Steven and Stacy Sample. She is an upcoming eighth grader at Adrian Jr/Sr High. In school, Evelyn is always on the go. Participating in Student Council, band, and always looking forward to the upcoming volleyball season in rec league.

In 4-H, Evelyn enjoys showing her poultry and has enjoyed many other classes, including photography, foods, first-aid, etc. She hopes that everyone will be able to make it out and enjoy the fair this year. Hope to see you there!

Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 a piece. You will be able to find her at the local rodeo, fair, messenger or can reach out via phone.

Money raised by the candidates goes towards improving the future fairs and the fairgrounds.

Kincaide promoted to Lieutenant

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Harrisonville Police Department is excited to announce the promotion of Brian Kincaide to the rank of Lieutenant!

Kincaide has been with the department since 2010, previously serving as a patrol sergeant.

We are proud of the leadership Lt. Kincaide has brought to the department and are confident that his dedication and experience will be vital to the future success of our community.

Obituary - Terry Gene Richards

Terry Gene Richards was born on May 30, 1951, and left his earthly life behind on the morning of June 10, 2024, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, MO.

Terry was the son of Sanford and Wilma Nell Richards of Walker, MO, the third of four children. He grew up on a farm north of Dederick, MO, and attended school in El Dorado Springs, MO. He graduated high school from El Dorado Springs in 1969 and moved to Kansas City to attend school following graduation.

He then worked for Sears in Kansas City for several years and married his wife, Diane. Terry and Diane had four children and were later divorced. Terry moved back to Nevada, MO, where he lived and worked for many years. He entered the Medicalodge in Nevada, MO, in 2008, where he lived until his passing.

Terry will be remembered by his friends and family for his silly jokes, quick wit, his artistic abilities, and his joyous personality. He spent countless hours drawing pictures and enjoyed passing them out as gifts to everyone he met. He loved playing card games and singing old church hymns and spending time with his family. He was so proud of his family and his grandchildren and looked forward to his visits with them. He never met a stranger and loved any opportunity to socialize and join in on the fun. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford and Wilma Nell Richards, and his daughter Johanna Richards. He is survived by his brothers Randy Richards and Ron Richards, his sister Joy Eason, his children: Brooke Foster, Paul Richards, and Rory Richards, grandchildren Taylor Wood and Destinee Milton, and 5 great grandchildren.

Patrol: Plan A Safe July Fourth Holiday!

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, reminds Missouri’s travelers to make smart choices for a safe July Fourth holiday. Whether planning to visit one of Missouri’s recreational opportunities or hosting a backyard barbecue, everyone should make safety part of their plans. No matter how you decide to celebrate, your smartest choice is to follow all Missouri traffic and boating laws.

During the 2023 counting period, 15 people were killed and 646 injured in Missouri over the holiday in 1,505 traffic crashes. Last year during the counting period, troopers arrested 125 people for driving while intoxicated. In 2023, there were 11 boating crashes, which included two injuries and no fatalities. One person drowned during last year's July Fourth holiday. Troopers made 10 boating while intoxicated arrests over last year’s July Fourth holiday weekend.

The 2024 July Fourth holiday counting period will be from 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2024.

All available troopers will be patrolling Missouri roadways and waterways to enforce traffic and boating laws and offering assistance as needed. The Highway Patrol will participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness & Reduction Effort) and Operation Dry Water over the July Fourth holiday. Operation Dry Water specifically targets impaired vessel operators.

Missouri’s boaters are asked to do their part by remaining alert for other boats and swimmers and being courteous on the water. Never operate a vessel if you’ve consumed alcohol. Boaters need to be aware that it is illegal to discharge fireworks from a vessel. Leave all fireworks in a safe place on shore. Remember to share the waterway, watch your wake, and use common sense, good judgment, and courtesy to ensure the safety of all. Life jackets save lives. Wear It!!

Obituary - Nancy Lou Richardson

Nancy L. Richardson, 84, of Grandview, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at her home in Grandview. She was born April 4, 1940 in Clinton, MO, a daughter of Harvey L. and Carolyn (Barnes) Randolph. She was a graduate of the Garden City, Missouri High School. Nancy was united in marriage to John Henry Richardson on June 3, 1961 in Miami, Oklahoma. She had lived in Grandview over 50 years.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, John Richardson, on May 5, 2019; an infant son, Craig; and a brother, Harvey Randolph, Jr. She is survived by her son, Mark Richardson, Belton, MO; her daughter, Terri Jo Richardson, Grandview, MO; a sister, Barbara Kern, El Dorado Springs, MO; a sister-in-law, Margaret Randolph, Raymore, MO; her granddaughter, Ava Richardson; her daughter-in-law, Dawn Richardson, Independence, MO; and her good friend, neighbor and caregiver, Theresa Dominquez; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like everyone to perform an act of kindness for someone.
