Obituary - Dylan VanWinkle

Dylan VanWinkle, age 29, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at his home in Clinton, Missouri. 

A Celebration of Dylan's Life will be held Saturday, July 13th, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri. the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM at the chapel prior to services. 

Family suggest contributions to be made in Dylan's name for his children, and may be left in care of funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Gregory James Jurgensmeyer

Gregory James Jurgensmeyer, age 63, of Montrose, Missouri passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife and children by his side. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri with visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. 

A private family burial will take place in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Montrose, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to Life Ministries Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Greg was born on May 24, 1961, to James and Mary (Vogel) Jurgensmeyer in Appleton City, Missouri.

Greg was a simple and good man. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and eating home-cooked meals. He delighted in his wife and children, enjoying the sweet times together, especially during the Christmas season. He considered himself immensely blessed with wonderful family, siblings, and friends.

Greg had a passion for woodworking and was known for his beautiful carpentry. He worked for Gary Voss for many years, building homes and cabinets around the area.

Greg had great faith and loved the Lord dearly. Over the past few years, he has attended Life Ministries. He always enjoyed the Men’s Fellowship group and listening to the Word being preached.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Earl Jurgensmeyer, and his baby sister Rose Jurgensmeyer.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis of the home, four children: Joshua Jurgensmeyer, Joyce Damaske (Lucas Damaske), BettyAnn (Nathan) Sharon, Jacob Jurgensmeyer, and one granddaughter on the way, along with many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and many for family and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Pleasant weather is expected for today, with highs mainly in the 80s. However, storm chances increase late tonight through Monday. The threat for severe weather is low, but locally heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out.


Obituary - Rosemary Waltz

Rosemary Waltz 73 formerly of Nevada, passed away at the Magnolia Square Nursing and Rehab in Springfield, MO following a lengthy illness. Rosemary was born on June 28, 1951 in Nevada to Charles and Lucy (Moore) Waltz. She grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School with the class of 1969. 

She was a homemaker and also worked in housekeeping at the Moore-Few Care Center for over 15 years. Rosemary has spent the past 15 years living in Springfield. She formerly attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada.

Family was the most important thing in Rosemary’s life. She loved the times spent with her family and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Eric Waltz of Battlefield, MO, two daughters, Amanda Waltz of St. Robert, MO and Julie Hampton and her husband Charles of Springfield, four grandchildren, Ethan Waltz, Landon Waltz, Alexcia Hampton, and Natalia Hampton, her sister, Lenora Marshall of Holton, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Frances Ellifrits and Louise Bennett, three brothers , Sam Devore, Roy Whalen, and Charles Waltz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Those who wish may contribute in her memory to the Alzeheimer’s Association c/o the funeral home.

Obituary - Donald Eugene Shafer

Donald Eugene Shafer was born in Kearney, Nebraska on January 23, 1943 and died at Carnegie Village in Belton, Missouri on July 3, 2024 after suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for over 14 years. 

He graduated from Gothenburg, Nebraska High School in 1961 and Milford Technical School in 1963. On April 5, 1964, he and Linda Drury were united in marriage at North Star Church in Fullerton, Nebraska. Their children are Janelle (Phil) Kellogg of Raymore, Missouri and Rick Murch-Shafer (Karen) of Blair, Nebraska. 

He was preceded in death by his father Glen Shafer and mother Doris Shafer and brother Richard Shafer, in-laws Howard and Marjory Drury and brothers Bruce Drury and Dale Neuman and sister in law Janice Shafer. 

He is survived by wife of 60 years Linda of Belton, Missouri, brother Marvin Shafer of Kearney, Nebraska, sisters in law Gwen Neuman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Donna Drury of Beaumont, Texas and Jean (Rodney) Supencheck of Columbus, Nebraska and 4 grandchildren, Zach Kellogg of Denver, Colorado, McKenzie Kitchell (Zane) of Belton, Missouri, Joel Murch-Shafer of Morgantown, West Virginia, Jenna Murch-Shafer of Blair, Nebraska, and 3 great grandsons of Belton, Missouri.

Don worked at Lincoln Equipment Co. of Lincoln, Nebraska, John Deere Industrial of Lincoln, Nebraska and Lancaster County Shop. He was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, Nebraska and after retirement, Holiday Island Presbyterian Church. Don and Linda moved to Holiday Island, Arkansas after retirement and they loved the home they built on the golf course and Don spent many hours enjoying golfing with friends and Linda.

After Linda needed more help caring for Don, they moved to a senior living facility in Kansas City, Missouri.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Structure fire in Nevada

July 4th just before 11pm Nevada and Milo Firefighters were called to the 19000 block of south 1700 road for a structure fire. C-Shift with a crew of 4 responded with Engine 212 and Tanker 211. 

Upon arrival they had a working fire in the garage that was working its way through the attic.

Crews made a good save and brought the fire under control in under 10 minutes. Milo and Nevada personnel performed overhaul and checked for hot spots. No injuries reported.

Thank you to Vernon County Ambulance for helping to rehab the fight fighters!


Structure fire in Rich Hill

On July 5th at 12:41:53 a.m. the Rich Hill Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 500 block of Olive street. At 12:43:00 a.m. the first fire truck arrived on scene and reported heavy fire and smoke in the living room and front porch. 

By 12:59:06 a.m. firefighters had knocked the fire down on the porch and were able to make entry and put the fire out on the first floor of the home.

Fire personnel then attempted to work there way to the second floor to fight the fire. Firefighters were not able to get to the fire on the second floor. And had to exit the home and attack the fire from the outside of the home. Firefighters worked on extinguishing the fire until 4:15:57 a.m.

Thank you to Compton Junction Fire Department for coming up to mutual aid our department.

Also thank you Bates County EMS for providing stand-by. 8 firefighters and 4 trucks responded from Rich Hill and 4 firefighters and 2 trucks responded from Compton Junction. During this incident we did have 1 firefighter suffer from heat exhaustion.


Obituary - Doug Eaton

Doug Eaton age 61 of Garden City, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at his home surrounded by love and family.

Cremation with no services scheduled.
