On Tuesday August 6th around 12:15 p.m. the Kansas State Highway Patrol along with Linn County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle crash on US-69 Highway about 8 miles north of Pleasanton.
The Kansas State Highway Patrol says the accident occured when the south bound 2020 Freightliner semitrailer driven by a 52 year old Christopher S. Drake of Sikeston, Missouri struck the rear-end of a New Holland tractor that was pulling a hay rake driven by a 59 year old Jeffrey D. Thoele of La Cygne, Kansas. The New Holland tractor then overturned.
Mr.Thoele sustained serious injuries and was transported to Overland Park Regional Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas.

Way to go Officer James Sole
Osceola Police Department wants to congratulate Officer James Sole, who is back in his hometown as a part-time officer for OPD! Officer Sole graduated from Osceola High School in 2021 and Central Missouri Police Academy, in 2023.
Officer Sole is a full-time Officer at Butler PD but came to Osceola looking to give back to his hometown. We want to thank Officer Sole for his dedication to this amazing town and wish him good luck here.
Another shout-out to Officer Sole only two days into working with OPD, Officer Sole stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and went beyond the stop, which resulted in getting methamphetamine off the streets of Osceola.

Nevada woman seriously injured in Vernon County crash
On Wednesday August 7th around 8:50 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on East Moles Road, about six miles west of Nevada.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occured when the northbound 2004 Chevrolet Pickup driven by a 33 year old Miranda D. Overman of Nevada, Missouri crossed the centerline on a blind curve and struck a southbound 2019 Ford F-350 driven by a 30 year old Jonathan C. Klingman of Hume, Missouri head on.
Miranda D. Overman sustained serious injuries and was transported by Lifeflight to Mercy Hospital in Joplin Missouri.

Obituary - Donna Jean Burch
Donna Jean Burch, age 85, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully at North Kansas City Hospital on August 1, 2024.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024, in Mt. Zion Cemetery, 575 Zion Dr., Lynn Creek, Missouri 65052.
Donna was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 8, 1938, the daughter of Dewey Russell and May Bell Walburn. Shortly after graduating high school, she met the love of her life, James D. Burch and together they were blessed with eight children, James, Jean, Ruby, Marsha, Kevin, John, Dawn, and Paula. Donna loved doing many things like reading, puzzles, watching the Perry Mason show, and spending time outdoors watching mother nature and the animals. She loved her family and friends, adoring every minute with them.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and May Russell; her loving husband of 50 years James D. Burch; daughter, Paula Chavez; grandson, Zeb Craig; brother, Dewey Russell, Jr.; sister, Evelyn Anderson; and son in-law, David Bolan.
She is survived by her children, James Burch, Jr. (Jesica), Jean Bolan, Ruby Bradley, Marsha Harshner (Arvel), Kevin Burch, John Burch, and Dawn Schmaltz; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kiwanis Club coming to Butler
The community is invited to attend the 1st meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Butler. The formation of this organization is underway, the first meeting will be held at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Butler on Thursday, August 8th at 6 pm. Adults participating as a member or as a leader, are invited to attend and find out how the formation of a Kiwanis Club can have a positive impact on the Adults and Youth in the community.

Shortly after 8:30 am this morning, Butler Police Department received a call in reference to a potentially deceased male at his apartment in Butler. On arrival, first responders confirmed the male was deceased.
We are saddened to announce the male subject was a civilian employee of the Bates County Sheriff’s Office that was assigned to the jail division.
We will not be identifying him at this moment to allow for his immediate family to process their loss and to notify extended family.
At this time the Butler Police Department and the Bates County Coroner’s Office are investigating the cause and manner of his death.
Cooler, quiet weather through Sunday
The weather will remain quiet and cooler than previous days, with a slight chance for showers/storms overnight into Thursday. Chances for rain increase by Sunday and Monday, with probabilities between 30-50%
Arrest made in Butler
On 7/30/2024, Butler Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance. While en route, Officers were advised that a male subject had left the scene with a firearm. Officers located a subject matching the description given of the male that left the scene.
The subject was identified as Seth Breiner. Breiner was searched for weapons and while being searched, the Officer located a firearm as well as a large amount of loose pills in a plastic bag. Breiner advised the Officer that the pills were Xanax and Percocet.
Breiner was transported to the Bates County Jail and a warrant was issued with the following charges:
Two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance
Unlawful Use Of Weapon - Possess Weapon And A Felony Controlled Substance
Breiner is currently in custody and was assigned a bond amount of $24,500 Cash Only.
