Field fire west of Passaic
The Adrian Fire Department along with the Butler Fire Department has been battling a corn field fire around 6 miles NW of Passaic.
The fire is said to be caused by a bearing that went out of a combine and sparked the blaze. This fire is still ongoing at this time. We will update when we know more.

Butler man arrested on warrants
Mr. Leemaster was arrested for two outstanding city of Butler warrants 1.) Nuisance Violation 2.) Illegal Burning.
Jason M. Leemasters was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently is being held on a $275 cash only bond.

Obituary - James J. "Jim" Fonke
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery. As requested by the family, please dress in casual attire.

Harrisonville High School Students of the Month for September
Coffey is the daughter of John and Laura Coffey.
She is involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, First Priority, Music Makers, soccer, and DECA.
She is the Student Body President, NHS Vice President, FCA and First Priority Student Leader, Music Makers Dance Captain, and boys’ soccer manager.
She is an AP Scholar Award recipient and a member of the ACT Hall of Fame. She earned 2nd team All-District and All-Conference honors in soccer, and is a two-time DECA International Qualifier.
She is also in her second year as a district communications intern. Outside of school, Coffey is involved in church and youth groups. She enjoys playing soccer, spending time with family and friends. After high school, Coffey plans to attend a four-year college to earn a degree in the business/marketing field.
Simon Claxton is the son of Adam and Jenny Claxton. He is involved in Music Makers, National Honor Society, Student Council, Prayer Group, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, First Priority, and Wildcat Network.
He is the President of Music Makers, President of NHS, Student Body Vice President, and he’s a Student Leader for prayer group, FCA, and First Priority. He is also serving as a district communications intern.
Claxton has been in the top 10% of his class for three years, earned principal's honor roll for three years, has maintained a GPA of 4.0 or higher for four years, is a two year recipient of the AP Scholars award, and is in the ACT Hall of Fame. He has earned four superior ratings and three exemplary ratings at state vocal solo and small ensemble competitions, is a two-time All-State show choir member, has earned a letter in varsity show choir for three years, and earned baseball Academic All-Conference for one year.
Outside of school, he is involved in his church and youth group where he plays guitar for the praise band and helps to lead youth events. He also loves to do service projects and community outreach events as well as fellowship with his church family.
Claxton is currently taking online classes at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he plans to attend next fall and enroll in the five-year Accelerate Program. He plans to earn a Bachelors in Biblical Theology and a Masters in Divinity with the goal of becoming a pastor at a local church.

Obituary - Carol Ann McCanles
Carol Ann McCanles, age 78 of Butler, Missouri passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 at her home surrounded by family and friends after battling cancer for several months. She was born September 10, 1946 to Mathew Salvatore and Marie Jeannie Ozierski Sola in Kansas City, Missouri.
Carol is survived by her husband, Ron McCanles of the home; and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Cullen Funeral Home, Inc., 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, Missouri 64083. The visitation will be from 10:00-10:30 a.m. with the memorial service following at 10:30 a.m.
Carol was born in Topeka, Kansas on January 5, 1942, the daughter of Burgess and Ellinor Sperry. Carol grew up in a big family of ten children. In her early years, Carol was primarily a stay-at-home mother, caring for her six children. Later in life she worked in many different careers for many years. Carol enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hiking, camping, and playing Bingo when she had the chance to. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the KC Chiefs and Royals and would watch them faithfully.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Burgess and Ellinor Sperry; son, Kevin Eugene Katzenmaier; two brothers, Garry and Buddy Sperry; two grandsons, Jamie and Jesse Katzenmaier; and son in-law, Mark Osiier.
She is survived by her five children, Christine Katzenmaier, Kenny Katzenmaier (Clara), Debby Osiier, Julie Katzenmaier, and John Katzenmaier (Michelle); seven siblings, Gerald, Toni, Mike, Patrick, Jeffrey, Jennifer, and Stephanie Sperry; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.
