Scattered showers and storms are expected over eastern KS and western MO this morning however those will not be severe. 

Another round of storms is expected tonight, This storms will be capable of being severe with the main threats being for damaging winds, large hail and perhaps an isolated tornado.

Obituary - Granville Michael Smith, II

Granville Michael Smith, II, age 56, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at his home in Urich, Missouri. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Granville Michael Smith II “Mike”, was born on June 16, 1968 to Granville and Judy (Lay) Smith in Fort Scott, Kansas. He married the love of his life and soul mate, Ann Lemmon, on March 23, 1990 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Mike loved being outdoors. He spent a lot of time fishing, gardening, and arrowhead hunting. Woodworking and building things with his hands was his passion. He had a very bright and creative mind. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or fix. He loved making things for his family and friends. For any project that he set his mind to, he put 110% effort into every detail of it.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Smith, and his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife Ann, of the home, two children; Lisa (Logan) Widner, and Garrett Smith, 4 grandchildren; Gunir, Jaxson, Brynn, and Gemma, his father, Granville Michael Smith, and two sisters, along with a host of other family and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Austin Nathan Damron

Austin was born Dec 23, 1999 two days before Christmas, at St Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri to Garrett Nathan Damron and Gingette Lynn Simpson.

He was a precious baby delivered to his parents in a Christmas stocking, the first of three sons.

He passed away September 9, 2024 in Belton, Missouri. He attended school from kindergarten through graduation in the Raymore-Peculiar district. When young, he played club baseball, football, and soccer, and attended church at Willow Creek Friends in Kansas City and Peculiar United Methodist Church. In high school he participated in wrestling and was a Missouri state qualifier. He loved girls, travel, nature, and skateboarding. Austin played various instruments and was a natural athlete.

He is survived by his father Garrett Damron and partner April Haskett, mother Gingette Simpson, her brother Joel Beck, brothers Dylan and Ethan Damron; and grandparents Gary & Barbara (Smith) Damron. He was preceded in death by grandparents William Simpson and Virginia Kay (Ginger) Beck; great-grandparents Charles & Della (Johnson) Damron; James W & Betty (Scobee) Smith; William Simpson and Jean Pringle McDougall; and Joseph Preston Beck & Donna Virginia Cole. He has many uncles and aunts, and he was one of a close-knit group of cousins: Taylor, Alexandra, Brenton, Nathan and wife Lily, Hannah, Wes, Lily, Brianne, Hope, Cooper, Liz, Joshua, Annie, Juel, Jakye, Mariella, and Zayden. Austin loved learning about and working in construction. He had fun, no matter what he did.

Visitation is scheduled Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Cullen Funeral Home (612 W Foxwood Rd, Raymore, MO) from noon to 2pm. The service will be held at 2pm, with burial afterward at Wills Cemetery (21825 S Thorngrove Rd, Peculiar, MO). Officiating will be Pastor Glenda Dethloff. Serving as pallbearers are Brenton, Cooper, Hannah, Nathan, and Wes Damron, Joel Beck, Alexander Resendiz, and Charley Hosterman.
