Rosellen “Rosie” N. Wainscott, age 96 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Medicalodge of Butler. She was born February 27, 1928 to Wayne W. And Hazel Crithfield Walker in Ballard, Missouri.
Rosie, one of two children, was born, raised and lived most of her life in the Ballard Community before moving to Butler, Missouri later in life. She attended grade school at Fairview and then Ballard High School where she graduated in 1945 as valedictorian. Rosie continued her education at Warrensburg and then taught school at Edwards and Bryant for 2 years. She went to Bethel Church as a child and then Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church for over 80 years.
Rosie loved to serve. She served the Lord, the customers at Staley’s General Store in Ballard during her younger years and as the Ballard 4-H project leader for many years. Rosie attended LPN school at the age of 45 and then served countless patients while working at Bates County Memorial Hospital for 37 years until she retired at the age of 82 and also at the local food pantry as a volunteer until the age of 90. On April 10, 1948 she was united in marriage to John Les Wainscott at the preacher’s house in Montrose, Missouri and to this union, three children were born, Candace, Mike and Joy. They embraced raising their children with strong christian, hard working values and then later spoiling their grandchildren. Her and Les enjoyed being part of the 49s card group, playing pitch with her friends and family, being members of the “Apple Dumplings Gang” square dance club, and going out to eat with their friends. Their social calendar was rarely empty.
Rosie was known as the best cook in Bates County for her “Grandma Rosie” meatballs, fried chicken and blackberry cobbler, in fact, she was featured in the newspaper. Many of her home cooked meals were enjoyed with her kids in the crop fields after Les returned from a day of work in Kansas City.
Rosie touched so many lives in a positive manner. Her wish was for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to remember that God is overall and to attend church.
Rosie is survived by her children, Candace Ann Sutton of Butler, Missouri, John “Mike” Wainscott of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Joy Leslie Yost of Harvest, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Eric Sutton (wife Nancy children Claire and Lincoln), Shandra Miller (husband Steven children Skyler, Tanna and Tucker), Carin Saverino (husband Joe children Ryan, Jenna and Alayna), Katie Curry (husband Andy daughters, Addison Moore and Ella Curry), Maggie Ford (husband Casey children Kipton and Kendyl), Michael Wainscott (wife Tiffany children Clay and Eden) and Joshua Yost (wife Hillary children Piper, Mackenzie and Sadie); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Les Wainscott; her brother, Gerald (Victor) Walker; sons-in-law, Dick Sutton and Steve Yost; and many other beloved relatives.

Arrest made in Belton
Belton, MO — November 1, 2024 – The Belton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is proud to announce the successful federal sentencing of Randolph McCallop.
McCallop, a convicted felon with a substantial criminal history, was sentenced on November 1, 2024, to 48 months in federal prison after stealing 600 rounds of ammunition from a retailer in Belton, Missouri. This incident was pursued for federal prosecution thanks to the hard work of the Belton Criminal Investigations Division and the crucial support of the ATF.
The investigation began on August 1, 2023, when Belton officers responded to a reported larceny in progress at a local retailer. A female subject was observed attempting to remove shoes without payment, while a male companion—later identified as McCallop—was also present. Upon arrival, officers observed the two subjects engaging in suspicious behavior, including attempting to return items without a receipt. The total value of the attempted theft was $1,153.96.
After consultation with the ATF, this case was presented for federal prosecution due to McCallop’s serious criminal history and the nature of the offense. There were many man-hours and a collaborative effort to get this dangerous person off the streets.
This sentencing serves as a testament to the commitment of the Belton Police Department and its partners to ensure public safety and uphold the law. We are grateful for the efforts of our dedicated police officers, our CID team, and the support of the ATF in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.

Traffic stop in Passaic leads to arrest
On 11/01/2024, at approximately 11pm, Deputies with the Bates County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on I49 at the Passaic exit.
The Deputy made contact with the occupants and identified the two as Ashley C. Alexander (Burris), 12/14/1984, of Montrose and Amber R Jefferies, 1/14/1984 of Butler. During the traffic stop a K9 unit responded to the scene. During a free air sniff of the vehicle, K9 Griff alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. During the subsequent search a fake soda can was located with a false compartment that contained approximately 6 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 7 grams of fentanyl. Several items of drug paraphernalia was also located in the vehicle.
Under Missouri law, possession of 20 milligrams of fentanyl is considered 1st degree trafficking narcotics, a class A felony. These two were in possession of over 7000 milligrams. According to DEA.gov, approximately 2 milligrams of fentanyl is fatal to the average person. Potentially, these two had enough fentanyl to kill the every person in the City of Adrian and Rich Hill combined.
Both Jeffries and Alexander have been charged with one count of Trafficking drugs in the first degree and possession of methamphetamine. Bonds were set at $150,000 cash only.
These two ladies have an extensive criminal history related to narcotics in this community. "This is exactly what we mean when we call people career criminals. Fentanyl is killing people at an astronomic rate and we have people like these two who continue to poison our community and kids. I want to thank the Deputies and K9 Griff for taking this off the street." Says Sheriff Anderson. "Upon conviction, I look forward to delivering them to the Department of Corrections where I think they should spend the rest of their life. These two have had multiple chances to change their lives and they just proved that they have no interest."
