Warsaw Police Department seeking public assistance

On 12-23-2024 at approximately 4:00AM a local bank’s ATM machine was broken into with a large sum of money stolen. 

The Vehicle that was used in the crime, was stolen from a local residence around the same time. In a neighboring jurisdiction a similar crime took place approximately 45 minutes prior. 

We are asking the citizens to contact the Warsaw Police Department with any information leading to identifying any possible suspects. Thank you!

Obituary - William "Bill" James Schulz

William (Bill) James Schulz, 94, formerly of Richards, MO passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, in Nevada, MO. Bill was born January 21, 1930, in Peculiar, MO to William M. and Elsie J. (Davis) Schulz. He married Mary M. Pottorf on December 22, 1951, and she preceded his in death on March 9, 2011.

Bill was raised in Peculiar and graduated from Peculiar High School in 1947. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in agriculture in 1951. Following college, he was drafted into the United States Army and served two years during the Korean Conflict. Bill served with the US Airborne and was also a Personnel Officer. Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to the Kansas City area. In 1954 he and Mary came to Richards to operate the family farm. Bill moved to Nevada in 1982 and continued to farm. He was a 60+ year member of Masonic Lodge in Richards, a member of the O.E.S. in Nevada, and was a member of the First Chirstian Church in Nevada.

Survivors include his children: Cathy Davis (Bill), Richards, MO, Kenneth Schulz, of the home in Nevada, and Kevin Schulz (Teri), Longmont, CO; ten grandchildren; numerous great, and great-great-grandchildren; and three nephews, and one niece. In addition to his wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Schulz; a sister, Mildred Miller; and a grandson, Shannon Meek.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church in Nevada c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Arrest made after pursuit in St.Clair County

On 12/21/2024, Osceola Police Officer French was conducting traffic enforcement on 13 HWY in Osceola, Missouri, at approximately 1727 hours, Officer French observed a vehicle traveling southbound faster than normal. Officer French used his department-issued radar unit, which showed the vehicle traveling at 110mph in a posted 65mph speed zone.

While Officer French attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the vehicle failed to stop for the Officer and did a U-turn heading back north failing to stop for Officer French. While the failure to yield began, the suspect began putting lives in danger by swerving from the fast lane to the slow lane, causing other vehicles to run off the roadway. The suspect's vehicle began traveling southbound in the northbound lanes toward oncoming traffic. The suspect's vehicle later slammed on its brakes causing the vehicle to strike Officer French's vehicle with K9 Beck inside the patrol car as well. The suspect's vehicle later went through Lowry City, Missouri, (a residential area), and later left the Lowry City limits and wrecked hitting a cattle fence. Officer French was able to take the suspect into custody. It should be noted that the suspect had an odor of intoxicants coming from his person as well as an open container inside the vehicle.

St. Clair County Deputy and his K9 Unit arrived on the scene to assist at that time. Chief Shumaker showed up on the scene and asked for the Missouri State Highway Patrol to work the accident, due to the suspect's vehicle hitting Officer French's patrol car.

After the suspect was evaluated at a local hospital, approximately an hour later the suspect was advised of implied consent and he consented to a breath sample, which showed a BAC of .100.

The suspect, Marvin Ruiz out of Kansas City, Kansas, was placed on a 24-hour hold.  Prosecutor Daniel Dysart began working with Osceola Police Department and formally charged Ruiz with Felony Resisting Arrest by Fleeing and DWI Aggravated with no bond.

Winning lottery ticket sold in Clinton

A Missouri Lottery player in Henry County won a $61,000 jackpot prize when her ticket matched the winning numbers drawn in the Dec. 2 Show Me Cash drawing.

The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s, 701 E. Ohio St. in Clinton, and matched all five numbers drawn – 3, 6, 10, 16 and 25.

Show Me Cash is drawn daily at 8:59 p.m., with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until won. Tonight’s jackpot is estimated at $274,000.

In FY24, players in Henry County won more than $4.4 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $358,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $377,000 in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.

AC Bulldogs finish 2nd in Midway Basketball Tournament

We would like to congratulate the Appleton City Varsity Basketball Team for taking 2nd in the Midway Tournament!

Obituary - Donita Kay Jagels Wilson

Donita Kay Jagels Wilson was born on June 19, 1949, in Appleton City, Missouri, to Marvin and Velda (Fischer) Jagels and departed this life on Monday, December 16, 2024, at her home in Branson, Missouri at the age of 75. She was baptized on July 9, 1949 and confirmed on April 7, 1963 at Zion Lutheran Church. 

She attended elementary at Zion Lutheran School and graduated high school in Rich Hill, Missouri where she met her husband, Larry Wilson. After graduating from college with a teaching degree, she taught elementary with her last 18 years teaching kindergarten at Reeds Spring Elementary School.

Larry and Donita were united in marriage on June 27, 1969, at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City. They were blessed with 3 children, Tracey in 1973, Brandon in 1975 and Kara in 1976. Donita was active in her church and served as the Sunday School superintendent and a Sunday School teacher for numerous years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing games - especially Mexican train and visiting with family and friends. She was especially proud of her 6 grandchildren. She loved watching them participate in sports, dance recitals and band concerts. Donita and her family all enjoyed spending summer vacations together.

Donita is survived by her husband Larry; daughter Tracey Wilson, Branson, MO; son Brandon and Julie Wilson, Branson, MO; daughter Kara and Steve Shank, Argyle, TX; brother Ricky and Linda Jagels, Rockville, MO; Grandchildren: Haydon and Will Wilson and Payton, Langley, Levi, and Boaz Shank; sister-in-law Shirley Fritts, Butler, MO and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding Donita’s death were her parents Marvin and Velda Jagels and granddaughter Abigail Shank.

Memorial contributions are welcome at Faith Lutheran School, PO Box 1807, Branson, MO 65615.

Services will be held Friday, December 20, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church, 221 Malone Dr., Branson, MO 65616. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am in the church. Graveside services will be Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery
