Light snowfall is expected to move into the area Thursday evening and end by Friday morning. Up to 3 inches of snow will be possible for far southern parts of the area with lesser amounts to the north.

Obituary - Nick Ray Flater
Nick Ray Flater, age 73 of Rich Hill, Missouri died Sunday, December 29, 2024 at his home. He was born March 10, 1951 to Arthur Christian and Lillian Ruth Luchtenburg Flater in Waterloo, Iowa.
Nick, one of five children, completed his education at Grundy Center, Iowa. After graduating in 1969, he attended Iowa State University. His strong sense of duty led him to join the United States Marine Corps in 1970, where he served with valor and distinction during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1973. On June 26, 1971, Nick married Deanna Rosalyn Bradley and to this union two sons were born.
Professionally, Nick exhibited a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, engaging in various ventures including Resource One, Flater Enterprises and Yellow Freight while farming. His true passion, however, beckoned him to farming full time in 2002. An active participant in the community, he proudly associated with the Rich Hill American Legion Post #67, the NRA and worshipped faithfully at the Foster Christian Church.
Nick’s adoration for the outdoors shone through with his love of hunting and fishing. His patriotism and deep fascination with military history often found him in camaraderie with fellow veterans. However his most profound joy was found in the presence of his family, with whom he shared an unshakable bond, which was anchored by his great devotion to God. Nick’s unwavering faith, dedicated service, support of his community, and love of family will forever inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
Nick is survived by his wife, Deanna Flater of the home; two sons, Shane Flater and wife Kassie of College Station, Texas and Jacob Flater of Rich Hill, Missouri; a grandson, Kaden Wyatt Flater; four siblings, Loren Flater and wife Pat of Toddville, Iowa, Brenda Lowery and husband Del of Bellingham, Washington, Reggy Flater and wife Linda of Lincoln City, Oregon and Tim Flater of Holland, Iowa; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Drug Arrest in Milo
As part of this investigation, officers from both departments executed a search warrant in Milo, Missouri. During the search, law enforcement recovered over 100 grams of methamphetamine, acid, and other controlled substances, along with currency linked to the sale of illegal drugs.
Two suspects were taken into custody and are currently being held at the Vernon County Jail. They face multiple felony charges, including drug trafficking, which will be submitted to the Vernon County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Once formal charges are filed, the names of the individuals will be released.
Sheriff Buehler emphasizes that the distribution of illegal narcotics will not be tolerated in our community. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Police Department remain committed to working together to eliminate the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.

Obituary - Kent Davis Bray
Kent Davis Bray, age 40 of Nevada, Missouri died on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 23, 1984 to Keith Alvin and Cynthia Sue Davis Bray in Springfield, Missouri.
Kent, one of two sons, lived in the Springfield, Missouri area and Butler, Missouri before moving to Nevada, Missouri. He attended the Willard Elementary School, the Butler High School and Briarwood State School for children with disabilities in Harrisonville, Missouri. His life was a testament to perseverance and the joy found in simple pleasures. Kent accepted Christ as his savior at age 8 when he knelt at his bedside and was an attendee of Butler Assembly of God.
Kent was known as witty, calm and funny. He was an avid fisherman. Kent also took great delight in leisurely drives through the country to admire the Mennonite horses, going to the Prairie State Park to see the Buffalo, a plate of fast food, quality time with his favorite TV shows, especially Scooby Doo and anything to do with cars. He loved to kiss everyone and when his mother would send him flowers. Kent enjoyed wearing his sunglasses and baseball caps.
Kent is survived by his mother, Cynthia “Cindy” Sue Bray of Rich Hill, Missouri; a brother, Kevin Bray of Rich Hill, Missouri; his grandmother, Joan Davis of Butler, Missouri; his two aunts Martha and husband Randy and Tammy and husband Jerry; an uncle, John and wife Linda; cousins, Lisa, Jacob, Shawna, Danielle, Tyler, Cory and Kelsey and his father, Keith A. Bray of Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, J.W. Davis; and two cousins, Cody and Brick.
