Movie filmed in Butler previews this weekend

A post apocalyptic movie titled Black Zone which was partially filmed in Butler in 2020 has come to fruition and there will be a 'sneak preview' in Kansas City this weekend according to information revealed during the regular Butler city council meeting this week.

The movie is based on Kansas City native Jeff Albert’s sci-fi thriller where an extraterrestrial object crashes, disabling electronics within fifty miles and causing extreme manias to surface within the population. At its center, John is enhanced by the alien artifact. Desperate for answers, the government hunts him according to a Rotten Tomatoes review.

Per a press release from the city of Butler: Black Zone is getting a limited release at AMC Theatres this Friday the 10th. What this means is, AMC is testing it for a week with audiences at the Town Center 20 and Olathe 28 locations for certain, and possibly Barrywoods. If it does well with audiences, we will get the opportunity to push it to a National level! This would be a huge win for independent films in general. Currently, only a few films like Black Zone are accepted a year, and we hope to show them that independent films can have just as much heart as the mega studio films. Not to mention there's a limitless supply of them. We greatly appreciate the City of Butler being a part of Black Zone, and hope you, or anyone from Butler, can make it out to one of the Kansas City theaters to support us. For anyone who would like to attend, we are planning to be at the Town Center location on Monday the 13th for the last two showings of the day for an 'Industry Night.' (AMC hasn't posted the screen times as of yet.)

Some 200 extras from the Butler area were cast in the film. Are you in there?
