New Miami County Sheriff Kelly sworn in


Yesterday Sheriff Matthew Kelly was officially sworn in for his latest term, marking another milestone in a distinguished career in law enforcement.

With a career that began at the Sheriff’s Office in 1988, Sheriff Kelly’s dedication to the safety and well-being of the county has been unwavering.
Appointed by Governor Joan Finney in 1994, he took office and was later elected to his first full term in 1996.
Throughout his career, Sheriff Kelly has prioritized transparency, integrity, and accountability, values that continue to guide the men and women of the sheriff's office in their daily work. Obituary - William Lee Viner


William Lee Viner "Lee", age 60 of La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025. Lee was born the son of William George Jr and Janice Lacey Viner in Great Bend, Kansas on June 4, 1964. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School in 1982. He received an associates degree from Barton County Community College where he was active in band, drummer for Hilltop Singers and FBLA. Lee was a salesman throughout his career and was the type of guy that could sell anything. In his early teenage years he marched as a rifle in the Argonne Rebels Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps. Lee was an accomplished set drummer, a studio musician, worked at the Valley Arts and Guitar Center in Los Angeles, he also toured Europe with the French jazz violinist and composer, Jean-Luc Ponty and collected Cinematic memorabilia. He married Annette Scheufler on January 19, 1992 in Great Bend, Kansas to this union two children were born, Megan and Harrison. He was preceded in death by his parents. Lee is survived by his wife, Annette of the home, a daughter, Megan Viner, a son, Harrison Viner, half brother, Ross Eugene Viner (Desi) of Wichita, Kansas and a sister, Lisa Suchy (John) of Great Bend, Kansas.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, January 17, 2025 at the Schneider Funeral Home, La Cygne Chapel. Obituary - Tracy Neill


Tracy Neill, 62 of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away Monday, December 9, 2024 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Cremation, with a Celebration of Life Service to be held 3:00 pm Saturday, January 4, 2024 at Side Pockets, 224 NW Oldham Parkway, Lee's Summit, MO. Tracy “Grumpy” Alan Neill was born March 9, 1962 in Independence, Missouri to Charles Neill and Donna Pine.

He attended Lee’s Summit High School, and married Tana Scharff on December 28, 1987.

Tracy never knew a stranger; he would chat and joke with anyone who had the time. He was also fondly known for giving nicknames.

Tracy was preceeded in death by his parents, Charles Neill and Donna (Pine) Boyer, and his sister Charlee Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Tana Neill, children; Sabrina Powell of Lee’s Summit, MO, Randy Whyde (Christen) of Drexel, MO, Michael Jones (Nicole) of Independence, MO, thirteen grandchildren; Noah, Sapphire, Shelby, Marissa, Hayden, Trysten, Brooklyn, Gracie, Madden, Treighton, Landen, Maverick and Logen, and three great-grandchildren; Matthew, Alexandria and Ezra. He also leaves behind a niece, Ashley German, nephew, Adam Jones, along with great-nieces, great-nephews and many extended family and friends. He will be missed by all.

An Eastern Star service for Jack Padley of Blue Springs, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2025 with a funeral service to follow at the First Christian Church, 701 NW 15th Street, Blue Springs, Missouri. Visitation prior to services 10 - 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 16 at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Jackie “Jack” Gene Padley, age 89 of Blue Springs, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri died Friday, January 10, 2025 at Cedarhurst of Blue Springs. He was born December 27, 1935 to Buford Arthur and Hazel Louise Hall Padley in Bates County, Missouri.

Jack is survived by his wife, Norma Padley of Blue Springs, Missouri; two sons, Jim Padley and wife Janice of Blackburn, Missouri and Jeff Padley and wife Michelle of Buckner, Missouri; a daughter, Janet Padley and companion Trisha of North Kansas City, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Grady Short (Tabitha), Megan Leap (Brodie), Graham Padley (Amanda), Josh Padley (Emily), Elizabeth Padley, Brad Padley, Rae Padley (significant other Richard Harrington) and Geni Wier; eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Wade, Gabe, Kennedy, Rhett, Owen, Addi and Regan; and a brother, Bill Padley and wife Lora of Butler, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jennifer Padley on September 14, 2007; a brother, Don Padley; and two sisters, Sandra Dykeman and Rosemary Padley.
