Patrons are currently experiencing a power outage stretching from Belton to Amoret as reported by Evergy.

In a possibly unrelated incident, around 9:20 this evening the Amsterdam fire department was dispatched to an area near County roads 11001 and 12002 to investigate an electrical fire.

Evergy says repairs should be completed by 10:30 pm.

Mid America Live to celebrate 15 years in business

The above is a screenshot of the very first post on this news blog during the last week of June, 2010.

We were living in Adrian at the time and I felt inspired to start a local website that would provide up-to-the-minute news, yet not directly complete against newspapers if at all possible.

I remember having a chat with C. A. Moore of the news-Xpress, someone whom I highly regarded, for his input. After I told him of my intentions, he rubbed his chin and laughed "You really think you can compete with me?"

We had a good giggle, yes siree. While I anxiously waited to hear words of displeasure, they never came. In fact, he said he thought it was a "great idea" and went on to say he figured it would be the future of news.

And from that point I decided I would dedicate all my work to his honor. I had always appreciated his particular style of writing: add a dash of wit and a sprinkle of dry humor whenever possible.

C.A. also added elements to the paper itself that made it unique and desirable such as Herrmann's Historical Happenings, Business Briefs, What's Up and a lot of dynamite photography to boot... remember the Buck Hough arrest photo that went worldwide? Ah, click HERE to see it.

In closing, I'd like to say that C.A. Moore is the reason this website exists. All the way back to my 5th grade days when he first showed me how to use an SLR camera, how to then develop and print those photos, I could never thank him enough for the inspiration.

All that said, I will never pretend to be the person C.A. was, nor will I ever insinuate my ramblings could possibly compare to his. I will say however, his spirit lives in me and my efforts to try to live up to him keep this website (now 15 years) and newspaper (now 5 years) going.

Sincerely,

Doug Mager
