Clinton police offer additional thoughts on trafficking investigation

Clinton PD investigators are still gleaning new information in this investigation including evidence that could suggest organized, interstate human trafficking.

Often thought of as a "victimless" crime, prostitution is more of a byproduct of something far more insidious. Vulnerable persons, through threat, coercion and violence, can unwittingly find themselves in a position where prostitution seems their only option. Those who visit prostitution are directly contributing to the victimization of those persons. Not to mention, the American dollars spent on this illegal activity do not support local business, it often supports foreign organized crime.

Investigation continues in this matter and the Clinton Police Department is cooperating and sharing information with Federal authorities. Anyone with material or information relevant to this investigation is urged to contact the Clinton PD Investigations Unit.

Police arrest two in prostitution bust in Clinton

Two women from Flushing, New York 52-year-old Jinmei Yan and 42-year-old Meixi Chen,  were found to be offering sexual services out of a public business in Clinton, Mo and placed under arrest on June 2nd.

In an undercover operation, Clinton Police Captain John Scott entered the establishment under the pretense of seeking a massage but instead was offered sexual services. Following arrest of the individuals, an investigation revealed possible human trafficking at the location as well, according to the probable cause statement.

Witnesses say different workers have been seen entering the business for several months. It was also revealed that individuals were living inside the business and most workers visited the establishment one time and were not seen again.

Yan and Chen face one count each of 3rd degree Promotion of Prostitution and are currently  being held in the Henry County jail on $50,000 cash only bonds.

The Clinton Police Department urges anyone with information regarding this case to contact law enforcement immediately.
