Butler Jr. High students take 1st in TSA Regional competition
Three Butler students with Junior High TSA traveled to Springfield on Saturday to compete in the TSA Regional competition. Congratulations to DJ Douty & Aidan Bettels who placed 1st in Mechanical Engineering with their catapult. Also congratulations to Alivia Pittman who placed 3rd with her Prepared Speech.
Natalie Foster named Area 7 Proficiency Winner
Congratulations to Drexel FFA Chapter President Natalie Foster for being named the Area 7 Proficiency Winner in Outdoor Recreation. Natalie has multiple jobs but one of her favorites is her position at Double Dollar Arena where she plays an important role helping with rodeo and play day operations, and helps care for horses. With her position she has the opportunity to help warm up and prepare various horses for events, set barrels, run cattle through the chutes, and keep the grounds clean and worked. Natalie will be on stage where she will be recognized for winning her area and compete against other FFA Members across the state in the area of Outdoor Recreation.
George Lewis jury trial moved to Henry county Circuit Court
George W. Lewis, 40, was taken into custody in November of 2023 in Bates County and held on 9 counts, all unclassified felonies that include one count of Statutory Sodomy, two counts of Sexual Trafficking and six counts of rape with an an underage person.
Lewis is now set for jury trial in the Henry County Circuit Court beginning March 30, 2026 at 8:30 am before judge M. Brandon Baker.

Memorial service will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the La Cygne United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, February 10 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the La Cygne United Methodist Church. 1900 The population of Bates County is 30,141 dropping 2,082 since 1890.
1915 The Adrian School Agricultural Class is needing 1,000 to 1,500 eggs per week until May 15. They will be selling chickens at 6 cents each.
1915 A new secret society has been organized in Adrian. It is to be named the Unlimited Gall Society. J.E. Hudelson doesn't make the group, citing he "lacked cheek".
1922 Rich Hill has a cure for drunks. Instead of eating and sleeping at city expense, they are taken to the cinder pile and must load a number of wagons before going back to their cell. At present, two prisoners have loaded 25 loads.
1922 About 300 people of the Foster neighborhood enjoy and oyster supper given by the Farmers Elevator Co. 17 new members sign up.
