Fire destroys machine shed

Around 2:30 this afternoon Butler and Rich Hill Fire Departments were called to the Baker residence  near the Double Branch Church on the report that a machine shed/shop was on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found the building already burned to the ground. Crews were on the scene about two hours.

Dec. 14th - Traffic stop at First and McColloh, warning for excessive speed.

Dec. 15th - Bates street, prowler reported, nothing found; assisted Adrian Fire Department on rollover accident on West 18 Highway.

Dec. 16th - Assisted with rollover accident on 71 Highway involving two vehicles and multiple injuries; assisted Adrian Fire Department with grass fire on Third street; check well being on Virginia street; traffic stop at Business 71 and Main, warning for expired plates.

Dec 17th - Traffic stop at Eighth and Kentucky, citation issued for no proof of insurance and failure to secure child in car seat; Main and Business 71, warning for defective equipment; Main and Cemetery Road, warning issued for defective equipment.

Dec. 18th - Business 71 and Main street, citation for excessive speed; Eighth and Bates, warning for excessive speed; Eighth and Edith, warning for failure to use turn signal.

Dec. 19th - Assisted Family Services on Second street; investigated verbal dispute on Ada street; Assisted Adrian Fire Department with fire in kitchen on Second street..

Winter weather advisory issued

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from midnight tonight to
6 PM CST Friday:

The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has
issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow... which is in effect from
midnight tonight to 6 PM CST Friday.

* Location... areas of eastern and southeastern Kansas as well as
western Missouri... including the Kansas City metropolitan area.

* Timing... light snow will begin near the midnight hour tonight and
is expected to continue through the daytime hours of Friday. Snow
will end by Friday evening.

* Snow accumulations... total snow accumulations will range from 1 to
3 inches in most locations. Snow may briefly mix with sleet in
areas south of Highway 50 Friday morning.

* Impacts... due to the fast nature of this storm system... roads are
expected to become snow covered and slippery in a short duration of
time. Visibilities may be reduced under one half mile at times.

* Other impacts... those traveling ahead of the Holiday weekend are
encouraged to plan and prepare for additional travel time as roads
are expected to become hazardous in nature on Friday.

Obituary - Marceen Lorraine Beers

Marceen Lorraine Beers, 61, Foster, MO, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, MO. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Archie.

Marceen was born August 21, 1949 in Missouri, the daughter of Audie and Eunice (Dodson) Smith. She was a lifelong Cass County, MO area resident. She had lived in Harrisonville before moving to Foster. She had worked for ABC.

Marceen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one son, Dale Beers and his wife, Jessica, Archie, MO; one daughter, Cindy Taylor, Chilhowee, MO; two brothers, Terry Smith, Oklahoma and Larry Smith, Topeka, KS; two sisters, Jackie Harr, Iowa and Barbara Clark, Belton, MO; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two God-children and her companion, Bob Adams, Foster, MO.
