Hume Community News 11/26/18

On Saturday Dixie Haler enjoyed visiting with her Grandchildren Trevor and Molly McClaughry and great-granddaughter Brinley. Her granddaughter Trenda McClaughry stopped by for a visit. Others who enjoyed the day were Bart & Lynn McClaughry, Karen Irwin and Abigail Metcalf. Lynn prepared a Turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

Caryn Curtis is home following heart surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. We wish Caryn a speedy recovery with lots of faith and prayers.

Hume United Methodist Church: Kid’s Klub resumed on Wednesday after their Thanksgiving Break. Don’t forget the Bean, Chili and Soup Luncheon this Sunday, December 2 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Church Basement Fellowship Hall. This freewill donation luncheon will benefit Kid’s Klub. The Annual Christmas Program will be Sunday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. with refreshments afterwards.

Hume Christian Church News: The Annual Ladies Christmas Tea will be held Sunday, Dec 2 from 4-6 p.m. Remember wear an UGLY Christmas sweater for a chance of winning a door prize. Bring your favorite snack or treat to share with each other and extra to make goody plates for our shut ins. All youth are invited to come at 5 p.m. to help deliver the good plates. This is always a great time for the Ladies with lots of fun and fellowship.

The Hume After-Prom is sponsoring a Mistletoe Market featuring local vendors, Holiday shopping, gift wrapping, portraits with Santa and s Soup & Chili Luncheon from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 9th.

Peculiar man seriously injured in Cass County Crash

On 11/26/18 around 2:45pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Raymore Police Department responded to a one vehicle accident on Route J around 1/2 mile north of 195th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 21 year old Joseph X. Doran of Peculiar, Missouri traveled over a patch of snow and ice causing the driver to lose control and travel off the the right side of the roadway and strike a ditch.

Joseph X. Doran sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported by South Metro EMS to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Miller Tow.

Traffic Stop leads to arrest in Rich HIll

On November 18, 2018 a Deputy conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of 6th and Walnut in Rich Hill, MO.

The Deputy advised the driver, Claude Edwards (DOB 12/7/1977), that the reason for the stop was careless and imprudent driving. 

The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Ramsey Foster (DOB 9/8/1979). Both subjects were taken into custody due to them having multiple active warrants out of Butler and Bates County.

While Edwards was being taken into custody he advised the Deputy he had marijuana inside his pants.

Foster advised the Deputy that she could possibly have a methamphetamine kit inside her backpack. The Deputy located the kit. Items inside the kit field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both subjects were transported to the Bates County Jail for their outstanding warrants. More charges are expected to be filed for possession of controlled substances.

On January 8, 2019 the Sheriff and Corporal Josh King will be traveling to Jefferson City to meet with the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole, They will be attending a parole hearing on Joshua Brown to oppose his release.

In 2016 Joshua Browns case went to trial by jury. He was tried for 2nd Degree murder in the connection with the 2014 shooting death of Cedar County Deputy, Mathew Chism, hindering prosecution, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. He was found guilty by a jury on all four counts. The 2nd Degree Murder and Hindering were over turned by the judge and he was acquitted on those charges.

Brown was convicted of possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence, which he has served about 4 years of a 10 year sentence.

Update: Police looking for subject after police chase in Bates County

The Bates County Sheriff's Office along with Missouri State Highway Patrol Deputies and Linn County Sheriff's Office are currently ended a pursuit of a 2006 model Dodge truck that fled from officers after a traffic stop.

The subject is said to be off in a field at this time near 52 Highway and CR 6001 West of Butler. One subject is in custody and another subject described as a white male in blue coveralls is on foot at this time.

Bates County K-9 Units are on scene tracking at the subject at this time. Mid America Live News will update when more information is made available to us.

Obituary - Buford McGuire

Funeral services for Buford McGuire will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Buford Thomas McGuire, age 90 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Medicalodge of Butler. He was born October 4, 1928 to George Franklin and Pearl Craft McGuire in Bates County, Missouri.

Buford is survived by his wife, Verla McGuire of Butler, Missouri; one sister, Marjorie Popplewell of Butler, Missouri; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and three sisters.
