When missiles were a part of life in our backyards...
A farmer mows hay while a Minuteman Missile is being lowered into its silo in the late 1960s...
For those of us who grew up in the Southwestern and West-central regions of Missouri during the Cold War, the possibility of nuclear annihilation was an unnerving constant as 150 silos such as this one were scattered in an arc across the region, with the majority being closer to the Kansas border.
While this is a dramatic example due to the missile itself is being installed, the small square area of a silo's location marked with its ubiquitous 12-15 ft high chain-linked fence were/are not hidden. They seemed to randomly appear and are/were a common occurrence while driving through this rural area.
Today, some have been abandoned due to various treaties, while others have had their missiles removed and replaced with updated versions.
The example depicted here carried multiple nuclear warheads with a very high rate of accuracy of over 8,000 miles. After reentering the Earth's atmosphere, each warhead would be traveling at around 15,000 miles per hour at detonation. -courtesy Jason Stump

Cooler week ahead!
It's a little muggy out there now, but humidity will start dropping this afternoon, and will result in a very pleasant evening.
Cooler temperatures follow for midweek and our upcoming rain chances are mostly at night.... so if we could do something about these mosquitoes, it would look like a great week to be outside!

This past weekend we had excitement in every class, from seeing new faces in victory lane, to a driver collecting his 100th feature win in his career!
In the Mini Stock division, Kyler Girard picked up his first feature victory over his brother, Dakota, and his father, Richard. Kyler makes the third different winner to victory lane in the Mini Stock class this year.
In the Pure Stocks, Shawn Hendren would add his third victory in that class for the year. Jerry Wheeler would finish second, collecting his seventh top five finish of the season. Norman Mackley, Corey Cagle, and Tommy Joles rounded out the top five finishers.
In the Street Stocks, Shawn Hendren would double up with another feature win, this being his third win in the Street Stock thus far. Billy Shadden would take home second place, this being this third top five finish of the year, as the previous weeks winner Jeremy Willard took third.
In the Midwest Mods, Matthew Hendren would visit victory lane for the first time in a Midwest Mod. Broc Rose, who had fire under the hood in the heat race, would start tail back in the feature and finish in the second spot, collecting his third top five of the year. His first time visiting the track this season, Fort Scott's Eric Atwood would take home third place over Carter Brownsberger, who collected his first feature win earlier this season. Cody Myrtle, climbing into a race car for the first time this season, would take home fifth place, making this his third top five of the year.
In the B-Mod division, Jerry Morgan would go back-to-back after collecting the win the previous week. Morgan continues his hot streak, collecting his third overall victory of the year. Brayton Skaggs would finish second in the feature, making this his fifth top five of the year, who also has one feature win this season. Matt Rose would finish third, who also chalked off his fifth top five finish of the year and has two feature wins. Justin Amick continued his good finishes with a fourth place finish and taking home his third top five finish. Darren Roberts would finish fifth in the feature event.
