Obituary - Christine Anne (Head) Clark
Christine grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Park Hill Senior High School Class of 1969. She came to Nevada in 1977 and worked for a time at Murphy’s Laundromat and later went to work for the Nevada R-5 School District beginning in the Food Service and later transferring to Early Childhood Special Education as a Paraprofessional. She also drove a school bus for the Nevada School District. Christine participated in bowling league in Nevada, enjoyed playing softball and volleyball, watching her grandchildren’s activities, and going to casino’s.
Survivors include her children, Shaun Morgan, Nevada, MO, Kerri Myers (Chris), Webb City, MO; six grandchildren, Kylie Seaver, Tate Morgan, Alaina Morgan, Gaven Morgan, Caden Myers, Karsen Myers; one great-grandchild, Harper Seaver; one brother, Larry Head (Kay), Warsaw, MO; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Lloyd, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Timothy Head.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Robert Clark officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral.
Memorials are suggested in her memory to the Nevada R-5 Foundation c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Obituary - Gerald (Jerry) Wayne Johnson
Jerry was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Jeff and Shirley Johnson. Due to his father’s military status, Jerry moved several times. His most memorable times were with his family in Alaska. Jerry’s family moved to Grandview his junior year of high school, where Jerry excelled at sports. Jerry played football and shot put during his two years at Grandview High School. Following high school, Jerry attended college at Central Missouri State College where he continued to play football. It was there that Jerry met his future wife, Judy Kay Moore. Jerry graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in Business. Directly after graduation, he was drafted into the Army, and was discharged two years later. While serving in the Army, Jerry married Judy Moore on May 30, 1968, and both took up residence in Grandview. Following his discharge, Jerry became employed by Pittman Manufacturing Company in Grandview as an Industrial Engineer, then later he took a position with Marley Cooling Tower Company in Mission, Kansas. In 1974, Jerry became father to twin girls, Shelley and Sherri. In 1977, he and his family moved to Peculiar where Jerry lived until Jerry’s Alzheimer’s progressed. In 2018, Jerry was moved to John Knox Village Care Center.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Jeff, and his mother, Shirley (Steiner). Survivors include his wife, Judy; daughters: Shelley (Adam) Bunton and Sherri (Peter) Milakovich; grandchildren: Brennan, Emily and Emma. He is also survived by his sisters: JoAnn (Jerry) Parrott, Judy Porche and Jennifer Johnson (Doug) Orvedahl.
Adrian Optimist Students of the Month
The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”.
The Miami Student of the Month for October is Austin Rankin, son of Sherry and Ken Rankin. Austin, a Senior, states, “it is what it is.” And just keeps pleasing everyone at Miami. He enjoys his outside of school job working at a cabinet shop and plans to continue there. Miami staff state, “Austin is one of those students that consistently does the right thing. He’s consistently polite and pleasant to those he encounters. He’s an all-around good kid.”

The Ballard Student of the Month is Aimee Cummings. Aimee, a Freshman, is the daughter of Yea Cummings. Aimee is active in Softball as a Freshman. Ballard staff state, “Aimee always completes her work on time and is always willing to help out any way she can. She is a fantastic role model for her peers and for younger students as well!”
The Adrian Student of the Month is Caitlyn Sass daughter of Stacey and Jeff Belohlavy. Caitlyn, a Senior, is active in Football & Basketball Cheerleading, Track, Marching Band, Student Council, NHS, Speech & Drama, and Theater. She is involved in soccer outside of school. Caitlyn says, “My main motivation is the prospect of future success. She has not decided on a school but plans to study child psychology.
Elks scholarship deadline fast approaching
The final deadline for the 2021 Most Valuable Student Scholarship Competition is this Sunday, Nov 15th.
One application enters the student locally and nationally. At the local level, our Lodge provides two $500 scholarships, and our Ladies' Auxillary selects an additional $500 winner of their own. At the national level, the Elks National Foundation will award $2.44 million dollars in scholarships among 500 winners.

Unofficial Minutes from the November 9, 2020 Meeting
Mayor Mayfield called the Regular meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the Drexel City Hall.
Citizen’s Present: Bart Downing – Alliance Water Resources, Travis Evans & Wiley Conor – People Service, David Still and Joe McKellips.
City Staff present were: Chief Forrest Routen, Crystal Routen-People Service Inc., Meghan Rhines – Assistant Clerk, and Patty Dreher-City Clerk.
Roll call was taken Mayor Mayfield – present, Mayor Pro Tem Crawford – present, Alderman Eastwood – present, Alderman Deal - present, and Alderman Harris – present.
Mayor Pro Tem Crawford made a motion to approve the Agenda; it was 2nd by Alderman Eastwood, with no more discussion the motion passed with a 4-0 vote of the Board.
Bart Downing with Alliance Water Resources was here again to talk to the Board about the water/wastewater & public works, with a new proposal with have 2 Full time personal and 1 part time Supervisor. The Board said that they would discuss it later and get back with them soon.
Alderman Deal made a motion to approve the minutes; it was 2nd by Mayor Pro Tem Crawford, with no more discussion the motion passed with a 4-0 vote of the Board.

City Clerk:
Police Department: Chief Routen informed the Board that Cass County is making it mandator that all cars that they dispatch to have to a GPS system installed in their cars. It will cost the City $50.00 a year which will include training on the system and continuous education. Chief Routen explained the we would need to get the software that can be put onto his lab top (that was purchased this year) to avoid buying a new tablet. Also needed would be another Wi-Fi hot spot and an antenna.

Alderman Deal motioned to shelf the Drexel Ride Along Policy; it was 2nd by Alderman Harris. Roll call vote was taken; Alderman Harris – yes, Alderman Deal – yes, Alderman Eastwood – no, Mayor Pro Tem Crawford – no, tie breaker Mayor Mayfield – no. After more discussion Mayor Pro Tem Crawford made a motion to change the wording from Board of Alderman to Board of Alderman or Mayor.; the motion was 2nd by Alderman Eastwood. With more discussion the Board decided that it needed more word changes so the motion and 2nd failed due to more discussion. Mayor Pro Tem Crawford motioned to table Resolution #276 Ride Along Policy to a later date; it was 2nd by Alderman Harris, with no more discussion the motion passed with a 4-0 vote of the Board.
Discussion:
- Final discussions were made with the old trailer park, prospective buyer David Still is ready to move forward. Alderman Deal motioned that Mr. Still will contact the surveyor to have the corners marked and the City of Drexel will pay for it, it was 2nd by Alderman Harris, with no more discussion it passed with a 4-0 vote of the Board.
- Alderman Eastwood motion to put Mayor Mayfield in charge of negotiations & signing contracts; it was 2nd by Alderman Harris, with no more discussion it passed with a 4-0 vote of the Board.
A motion to into Executive Session do to Missouri Sunshine section 610.021 (3), 2nd by Alderman Eastwood, with no more discussion a roll call vote was taken; Alderman Harris – yes, Alderman Deal – yes, Alderman Eastwood – yes, Mayor Pro Tem Crawford – yes, motion passed with a 4-0 vote of the Board.
