BATES COUNTY CATTLEWOMEN’S ASSOCIATION
SIRLOIN AWARD CRITERIA
The Bates County Cattlewomen’s Association will award $250
to an outstanding senior member in a Beef enterprise or project who is a member
of the following organizations:
Butler, Adrian, Rich Hill, Miami or Ballard FFA, Archie/Drexel
FFA if you live in Bates county, and/or Bates County 4H.
Qualifications:

You must be enrolled in a Market Beef or Beef
Production enterprise or project

You must be a senior in high school during the current
calendar year
3
You may win the award only once

Applications are due by MAY 1ST of the current SENIOR year
of high school
Winners should exhibit the basic knowledge and skills gained
from all facets the beef enterprise.
Selection criteria should include the following:
1. Member’s
knowledge of their respective project; beef production or market beef. (i.e.
gestation table, heat cycles, age at weaning, EPDs, average rate of gain, feed
conversion, balancing a ration, feed cost per pound of gain, etc.)
2. Practical
vet knowledge and skills (i.e. bovine diseases, vaccines, worming, proper
injection techniques, beef quality assurance practices, etc.)
3. Good
record keeping skills. Project record
books should be complete. The award will
not be decided by the profitability of the individual’s beef enterprise.
4. Citizenship, work ethic, leadership and
participation in beef projects
Presentation will be made at the Bates County Cattlemen’s
Association Annual Meeting.
Payment is to be made
after the first semester of college is completed.
Payment will be made directly to the college.
Honorees will be required to submit proof of their full time
attendance and a GPA of at least 2.5, or the award will go to the next
candidate in line.
