On Thursday through Saturday, February 14-16,
Trey Heckadon, a junior wrestler for the Butler Bears, competed in the MSHSAA
class 1 state wrestling tournament in Columbia.
Trey finished 4th in Missouri class 1 in the 126 lb weight
class. This is Trey’s third consecutive
medal at the state tournament, placing 5th in 2011 and 2nd
in 2012. Trey joins Scott White, Tony
Brown, Blayne Varns, and Derek Varns as only the fifth Butler wrestler in
school history to bring home three medals from the state tournament.
Coach’s
Comments
“We are
very proud of Trey’s state performance.
Most wrestlers have 3 solid in-season months of preparation prior to the
state tournament. Trey had only about 6
weeks on the mat to put together his run at the state tournament. All things considering, he had a great
tournament. Luck doesn’t always favor
you in wrestling. Champions and great
wrestlers fight through pain and make their own breaks. Trey showed, once again, why he is one of the
best wrestlers in the state at his weight class this past weekend. Next season, we plan to see him at the top of
the medal stand. We also plan to qualify
several new Bear wrestlers to go on the trip with him.”
