Marian “Denny” Francis Baier, 87, Raymore, Missouri, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at The Rehabilitation Center of Raymore in Raymore, Missouri. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Fontana Cemetery in Fontana, Kansas. Friends may call 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association.
Denny was born March 22, 1926 in Fontana, Kansas, the daughter of William and Hazel (Stevens) DeNise. She was a 1944 graduated of Fontana High School. She married B. H. “Bud” Baier on April 14, 1946 in Fontana.
Prior to her marriage, Denny had worked as a secretary for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fontana. She enjoyed shopping, antiquing and playing cards. Denny and her husband, Bud, owned and operated Baier’s Den in Peculiar, Missouri. They started the business in 1950 as a kennel and in 1954 it became the first hunting preserve in Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bud, on September 21, 2005 and one sister, Wilda Campbell. She is survived by two sons, Gene Baier and his wife, Becky, Harrisonville, Missouri and Wayne Baier and his wife, Pat, Peculiar, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Ben Baier and wife, Suzanne, Amy Shuey and husband, Mike and Jenny Tryan and husband, Mike; 4 great-grandchildren, Cobey, Brett, Emilie and Bailey; other family and friends.
